The hybrid recalls don’t worry me much, but I am concerned about being stranded by this cable issue. I’m glad Ford has decided to fix it.

Hopefully, I can get it done without the service people breaking anything else.

Basically, it sounds like the service techs are to install a new cable to "overlay" the old one, then "disable" the old one. So, disconnect the old cable, just leave it there. Hopefully cut off the terminals so someone doesn't try to reuse it. Don't bother to remove the old cable, because they don't see the point in paying for the extra labor to do that. Just run a new one and hook it up.
Yep, that's what it looks like to me too!

I had one no-start back in Aug 2022 (it finally started when the tow truck arrived 1.5 hours later) and a couple deep sleeps. This CSP applies to trucks made from 26 July 21 to 13 May 22 , and mine was 23 May 22. Checked my vin and it’s not listed. Going to talk to dealer and see if they’ll do it. Sure would be nice to not have to wonder if the thing will start!

I’ve had over 25,000 trouble free miles with my hybrid in one year. I tend to think if my truck had a bad cable that it would’ve raised its ugly head by now. Y’know, “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”. I also do not trust the dealer parts replacer to do the job correctly. Man, I’m gonna think on this one for awhile.

Below describes my TEMPORARY FIX if you have this issue:

A few months ago, I too had a dead Hybrid: 3.3V directly at the 12V battery terminals....

After some quick checking, I jumped the truck using a 12V battery pack connected under the hood and it started right up, but there was still no charging voltage at the 12V battery terminals under the rear seat, which lead to the (now well-known) cable lug solder failure issue where the 12V battery cable connects to the fuse box under the hood.

It appears that this solder joint failure results in the ring terminal flat solder lug having a "loose" connection to the cable strands. This solder connection is buried and wrapped inside textile cloth tape so you can't inspect it easily. And I noted that the DC current there can't be that high: it carries a very small continuous current with the ignition off, and after turning on the ignition it will carry the initial startup current for the vehicle's systems, after which the DC to DC converter picks up the 12V load in full which removes it from this connection. Plus there is some charging current going back to the 12V battery, which typically also won't be much.

So I felt that to get my Maverick going again I could simply put a small hose clamp around the outer sheath of the cable, right around where the solder lug would be. (disconnect battery ground first for safety!) This hose clamp doesn't have to be crazy tight and it is insulated from the 12V connection as it sits around the cable insulation wrapping. But to be sure I keep the screw side of the hose clamp away from the fender, just in case.

This hose clamp should keep that cable lug clamped against the wire strands. After that fix, I had good charging voltage at the battery terminals again. All was well.

I took the truck to my local dealer and they indeed diagnosed said terminal issue but couldn't take care of it because they didn't have the main electrical fix-it tech available that day.

After that, I did not have an opportunity to schedule something for a while and I'm now standing by for a slot to open up with that tech so we can do a dropoff and a same-day fix. I'm not in a rush.

It has been close to THREE months with zero problems. So that simple hose clamp appears to be a good temporary fix. With the small DC current through that connection, I wouldn't hesitate to keep this fix in there for years if I had to.

So, if you run into this same issue, don't fret, disconnect the battery ground, put a small hose clamp around that +12V terminal lug at the fuse block, reconnect the battery and jump-start the truck. And get Ford to fix the cable assembly under warranty whenever convenient.

All in all: at 31k miles now I am still very impressed with my Hybrid Maverick. The few recalls and issues were small potatoes really, mostly to be expected with a brand-new vehicle model. I really like this thing!

Yep… now showing up on My Ford website for my 2022 as CSP 22B39.
Now gone… Maybe if you had the wiring harness replaced like I did, the CSP will not apply.

My dealer thought I was crazy when I had my car towed about a month ago for this problem. Starts up, drive a mile, then it's dead. Might work 10 hours later or maybe the next day. They soldered a wire. I drove it a couple weeks with no problem. Then today, I start it up and drive 100 feet and park it. Come back 30 minutes later, It's dead. Had it towed again and they'll look at it as soon as possible. Last time, took 3 weeks to look at it. :(

My truck is at the dealer to have this repaired. They just called and told me they cannot proceed because ford hasn’t opened their computer system to do the repair. Anyone else experiencing this?

Got my letter today. Otherwise, I would have missed it. I am taking this as a good thing. Ford admitting the issue.

Got the email, called dealership. They said they need to inspect the cable and will only replace it if it's bad. Geez, I thought they were all made with the same crappy solder connection, at least the ones in the stated date range. I don't have the no start condition, but had the deep sleep really bad. Had it into the dealer three times and they couldn't fix it. Requested they replace the 12v battery. It's been two months since it was replaced and no deep sleep. I suspect the cable is flaky. Has anybody had the dealer not replace the cable under 22B39?

Just saw this posted by Tommy on another site. I searched here and haven’t seen it posted yet.

My Dealer said they are going to order the part, will take up to a week to get it.

Make your dealer CHANGE the faulty part as said in the letter!!
