There have been numerous comments in other posts addressing what criteria makes the airbags deploy. There are numerous sensors and thousands of bits of information that the RCM reads and calculates in determining if an airbag should be deployed.
I think that it's also safe to say the previous recall has nothing to do with your roof airbags not being deployed.

I also am trying to gain an understanding of how my insurance company will value my truck. Between the tint job , bed cover, Muslogy trim kit, and multiple other odds and ends left in the truck, I can still substantiate an additional 1K of add-ons beyond any market adjustment.
Depends on the insurance company. A while back my wife's KIA soul was rear ended and totaled. They offered a price, I went online and found three for sale for more than they offered. They upped the dollar amount.

A few things......

1) The airbag recall involved the side impact airbags, not the frontal impact airbags.

2) The airbag recall did not involve the question of whether they deploy or not, it involved the positioning of the deployed bag being out of spec.

3) It takes a substantial impact in terms of G-Force regardless of front or side to trigger airbags. While I am sure it was a pretty bad accident for you it does not appear bad enough to trigger airbags.

I would not really be questioning the airbags working properly or not, especially in the context of the recall.

Glad you and your wife were not seriously injured. It looks like this isn't the Tundra's first front end collision judging by the pictures.

Ford Maverick Air Bag Recall Effectiveness Questioned - Post Accident 1685934390710

As a comparison, In my case there were no side bags and the Chevy Blazer hooked my door frame and brought the car to an abrupt stop, but it was still not sudden enough to cause the steering wheel air bag to deploy...

Please keep us posted on this. If they deny the extras, ask how they could have been covered going forward

Well, this was not a total( see picture), so I would be highly surprised if yours is. This was a deer encounter in Illinois. On the airbags situation, as a few have already posted, they are not intended to go off for every encounter, there are speeds, angles( also referred to as yaw rate) and points of hit, along with rate of deceleration that are calculated by the RCM( restraint control module) by strategically positioned crash sensors that determine if deployment is necessary to save a life or prevent major bodily harm. Many times, even in frontal crashes( at a below threshold speed) the bags will not deploy, but what is called a pretensioner built into the front seatbelts will actually fire off a pyrotechnic device that instantly pulls the seatbelt tight to prevent the occupant from moving forward and contacting the steering wheel or instrument panel. Air bags can go off at you and cause harm, that is why they don't go off every time, there is a calculated point where possible harm by the bag( broken nose, bruises and even in some cases broken ribs or more) is the lesser evil when possible death is the alternative. I'm sorry to hear of your injuries and damaged Maverick, and hope all will heal with time.

This is exactly why I got GAP insurance.
Not needed on a new Maverick. They are worth more used than MSRP + TTL. you should never be upside down on a new Maverick unless you pay Over $5,000 ADM.

Last weekend, my Maverick was involved in an accident at a traffic light-controlled intersection. Both I and the other driver claimed we had the green light. With both of us entering the intersection, his Tundra with a cattle guard struck my front left fender with his right front quarter. Both my wife and I were belted. I was thrown toward the passenger side with sufficient force that I struck my wife. I and the occupants of the other vehicle were uninjured. My wife suffered deep tissue bruising of the chest and leg which continues to be a source of pain with movement. I was not found at fault by my insurance company. I don’t know whether the other driver was.

My concern is that no air bags deployed in my vehicle. I’m attaching photos of both truck to evidence the force of the collision. I recently had the side air bag recall procedure completed on my truck. My question for the membership, especially those who might have auto engineering expertise, is whether there is an expectation one or more air bags should have deployed. I raise this as a possible continuing safety issue on the Maverick. If Ford has a representative monitoring MTC, I will welcome their input. Is there another agency or Ford element it would be appropriate for me to address my concern?

I’m awaiting the result of the collision center’s assessment. I would be surprised by anything other than the truck being totaled. Now, I begin the search for a replacement (VB, hybrid XLT, lux package, 360, SIBL, front tinted window, X-15 soft rollup cover). So far, I have struck out with Alabama dealers. Before the accident, Carvana and CarMax gave me offers of 31-31K.

Sorry to read about your accident. Glad there is nothing more than bad bruising.
I have always been under the impression that airbags will not deploy unless there is a straight head on collision.

This is just a reply regarding the belt tensioner.
Some friends were driving on a highway with stop lights. They were stopped at a red light when they were struck from behind by a person whose abilities were severely impaired. The passengers belt worked as prescribed the drivers side did not. The passenger ended up with a broken collarbone from impact with the belt. The driver bounced their head off of steering wheel and was killed instantly.

Those of you suggesting that the damage does not appear worthy of a total declaration, I hope you are right. Im having no luck finding a replacement within 100mi. As I expected, those showing an inventory are displaying special orders awaiting pickup. I expect I'll hear from the collision center this PM with their estimate of repair costs. Then on to my insurance company(USAA).

Update - Collision center has not finished their evaluation, so Im still in limbo. They have to strip out a lot more to see everything. The words that worry me are, "I think I see a possible kink near the motor mount on one side."

Sorry for your trouble.

I would have thought the Tundra would fair better in the match.
Agreed, tweaked the cattle guard! Mav’s wrap around front bumper was a big selling point for me.

Actually I was referring to how far the front bumper was pushed left. Gotta be frame damage there in addition to the whole front clip. The "cattle guard" held up better than the truck.
