I received the Subaru newsletter and lo and behold what's on the photo? Could this be the reincarnation of the Baja? Based on how the guy is sitting, looks like a compact bed pickup. If I don't get my Maverick order, looks like I have an option if this comes out to the US.

That’s a old Subaru Brat sold in Australia can tell by the seats in the back which I believe are no longer allowed legally.
It was also sold stateside. Cool little cars. I liked them better than the Baja model in more recent years.

If Subaru had a stateside Baja, I’d probably trade my Maverick. I’ve owned three Subarus (we currently own an Ascent) and love the quality and AWD.

If they make one as several you tube videos predict, I expect it will be based on their crosstrek. Picture a crosstrek with the wagon area as a short bed. It won’t take much to make it happen.

it would be very capable off road. Accessories will be off the charts. That group camps. And price will probably be best in class. I can picture the wilderness edition already…

I would buy a Subaru before a Ford. But there isn’t a small truck from Subaru right now.

My family has had terrible issues with Subarus, including two different outbacks that were lemon-lawed (both my brothers). My wife's WRX was also a nightmare; one of the first things we did when we married was dump it. Doubt anybody in our family will ever buy another Subie. On the other hand, we've had several Hyundais that would not die. If the Santa Cruz was an actual competitor to the Maverick (pricepoint, fuel efficiency, and not absolutely hideous), there would be one in our garage.

I worked at a major used car franchise, cough-max- cough,

The running joke with the mechanics during the morning “needs to be fixed list” meeting was, Is it a Subaru? Jeeps were a close second.

The quality simply isn’t there anymore.
To bad, as they used to have the reputation for Uber reliability. That was the reason I bought mine. Unfortunately they were already having issues by then. It was a terribly disappointing brand.

I have owned Hondas, Toyotas, fords, chevys, VW’s, and Nissans. All had far less issues than my Subaru..

My apologies if you have had good experiences with Subaru. Good for you, they can’t all be bad. However, the “Love” only goes so far when making a Subaru a Subaru. New owners need to be aware of that.

Doubt it will happen. They brought the Baja out when Americans did not want utes. With how popular the crosstrek is, I doubt they would sink money into a project that would cannibalize those sales. And as stated above, reliability milage will vary. That being said, I am trading in my subaru for the maverick. I loved subaru.....until I owned/maintained one.

One of my friend's dad had one of these with the jump seats. Would drive us around the neighborhood and such so we could ride in the bed. It was awesome.
