I literally cannot get past step 1 which is removing the bolt that tailgate cable rest on. I've tried a regular socket wrench and it wont budge, I've WD40'ed it to try and loosen it up, I tried putting the 50 socket bit in both a normal drill and an impact driver to try and reverse it out. All I've accomplished it stripping the bit and part of the bolt. Anyone have this issue when trying to install the tailgate assist? How did you get it out?

I just used a regular impact on mine with the socket.

I must have been lucky as just used a regular socket wrench. The BIG fun for me was getting the funny nut to stay in the door as I tightened it down. Must have been over 1/2 hour fiddling around until it finally caught enough to tighten...

I’m surprised! Seemed like a formality for me.
I’m assuming you’re turning it the correct way—Lefty Lucy
Maybe a breaker bar????
Should be simple. Something’s wrong

Only other comment I might offer is look at your bit itself. If you got some harbor freight bit or something like that, that could be the problem itself, especially if it's primarily the bit that's stripping, as you said.

CLEAN THE LOCK-tite paste off of the new included cam locking bolt before hand. Trust me on this. You'll thank me later. Apply your own new/fresh liquid lock-tite if you must.

The months old hard-dry stuff on the included bolt makes it near impossible to install.

Hmm, well since no one else is having an issue it makes me wonder if somehow my bolt is cross threaded or something.

I did get a harbor freight bit but I dont think that is it. Once I plugged it into the drill and tried that it was stuck enough in that the drill itself was turning instead of the bolt. (if you get what I'm saying), I'm gonna try a third time I guess.

I just used my hand, a T50 and a 3/8" drive ratchet no power tools. I used a vise to get the bolt they have loctited to the maximum to be able to turn in slot making it to where i had to spend less time on tightening it. I would say if a power tool isn't working something is wrong.

Mine was tight but it finally broke free with a ratchet. Maybe some heat might help?

I’m assuming you mean you tried an Allen wrench, which probably won’t work. You need to use a Starpoint socket. I believe a 45. I got this set at Harbor Freight tools. The tailgate assist should have full instructions.

Mine was super tight as well. I ended up putting a vice grip plier on the outside and broke it free. Then I could use the socket from there.
