Not sure if Ford headquarters is aware but my local dealership required a 2000 dollar deposit on my Maverick order. In ten days it will be 8 months for my hybrid order with still no build date . I wonder if they will start paying me interest on the 2 grand ?

Man...you guys were a lot more willing to play ball with dealers than I was.

$0 deposit, but was willing to do up to $100 refundable if they wanted it. Turns out, they also believed that taking deposits on the cheapest Ford in America is silly.

Taking a deposit of a vehicle they knew they could sell for more than MSRP easily if you decided to not buy it is asshole-ish….

My dealer was 500.00 deposit but they handed the check back to me when I received my truck 14 months later. So your dealer cashed the check, I guess dealers all do things differently.

Large deposits would have helped calm the market down

My dealer required a $1000 nonrefundable deposit. The upside was that this cut down on the BS. This created a signed purchase agreement that included an exchange of money. Locking both sides into the sale.

Dealer upside:

-Serious buyer with a guaranteed quick sale (no advertising cost or long term storage)
-Less risk on the finances offered

Buyer upside:

-Serious buyers only means less wasted dealer allocations
-Dealer is less likely to add on any cost or options in addition to what you order

Worked out great for me. They still have a giant stack of Bronco orders waiting to be filled, so I think this approach came from that lesson learned.

Mine did $500 but was refundable after six months of no delivery. When I bought the Explorer due to the Maverick taking too long, they rolled the $500 over to the Explorer.

To me, that would have been a red flag to avoid doing business with that dealer. I see no reasonable explanation for an order deposit on a Maverick, especially one of that amount. I would also like to see statistical evidence that dealers requiring large (over $500) deposits for a Maverick order are less likely to scam you if/when it gets delivered. I call BS on all of it.

Mine tried for $500.00 but it didn't happen. I costs them nothing to order. Who ever you are dealing with are thieves.
