Interesting that Ford instructed the dealers that no deposit was required yet many collect deposits.

See attached.

Dealers are privately owned and operated. They order the vehicle and don’t neccessarily want your build sitting on the lot if you change your mind. It also helps to ensure your a more serious buyer and have enough liquidity/income to buy the vehicle.

Yes in this time frame the trucks will likely sell in short time above MSRP (ADM). These dealer glory days will be over soon and no one wants to be stuck holding the bag.

Without a deposit you don't really have any claim to the vehicle. You've just let the dealer order themselves an extra unit using your name

I insisted on placing a deposit when I ordered.

That reads more like no deposit required when making a reservation (Like the $100 required for the Bronco). Seems like the reservations were more of just a lead to a dealer to contact you instead of kind of a placeholder like they were for the Broncos.

The document you attached says that no deposit is required for reservations. I guess Ford made a point of that because the F-150 Lightning reservation did require a deposit.

Are you saying dealers collected deposits for Maverick reservations?

Or are you talking about dealers collecting deposits for orders, which is a different thing?

(EDIT: Oops, looks like @GrabberMav mentioned this before me.)

The last 3 vehicles I ordered I paid no deposit. That includes the Maverick and 2 x HD Rams.

your deposit doesn't guarantee anything. It just helps tell the dealer you aren't going to back out of your potentially unpopular build. The maverick doesn't have that much customization like a f150 so odds are a lot of people would find your build desirable. And ford said they don't require a deposit, the dealer can and in this case often do.
