So many posts with misinformation on the eCVT comparing it to a conventional “rubber band” CVT. It’s NOT the same transmission! There have been a number of helpful posts with links to videos with good information on how an eCVT actually works. I wish Ford would change the name. I suggest Electric Planetary Transmission EPT, or Electric Planetary Variable Transmission EPVT.

I think Toyota refers to the planetary gearset as the "power split" device.
Power Split Transmission (PST)?

Or maybe keep it stupid simple and just remove the 'C'
Electronic Variable Transmission (EVT)

Or go full marketing and throw some pizzazz at it:
SmartDrive™ Transmission

I agree. I was put off by my mental image of a CVT. I got excited once I learned what the eCVT is, but I would have never found out if I wasn't on this forum.

Here's a video that explains Fords ECVT in more detail that was used in the Escape.
The Maverick may have the latest generation with more hp. Enjoy!

The eCVT is the only design I'd even consider. Screw the belt design. Still prefer actual gears.
When the Mav first came out I was very interested till I found out it was an CVT. Then I found out it had an eCVT and I jumped on it. Still have a stick in my motorcycle and my Miata.

An eCVT is great. CVT not great. I agree they should come up with a better name.

My CRV has cvt and it’s fine. Toyota and Honda have an actual first gear for quicker acceleration off a stop. It’s reaching 100k, will see how reliable it is, but it’s been great so far.

Yeah, you think after all the flak Ford took for their crappy cvt in the fiesta and focus they'd differentiate the name more. I rented a cvt fiesta once. It almost killed me. I tried to shoot into a gap in traffic and it felt like the emergency brake was on.

Except those don't utilize a CVT at all. The PowerShift in the Focus and Fiesta is a Dual Clutch Transmission; more a sort of "automatic manual".

The Fiesta and Focus use a dual clutch transmission , not a CVT.

Toyota has a decent track record with their CVTs as does Ford with the eCVT. A lot of other brands...not so much.
