Ok...I understand how the larger electric motor/generator is directly connected to the wheels. I also understand that on the other side of the transmission, the ICE is connected through a starter/motor/generator. What I'm having a hard time understanding is how the ICE gets power through the transmission to the wheels. Wouldn't the starter/motor/generator just slip? Does that ever happen? If not, then why does the engine go to a higher RPM when hard accelerating?
