If there’s any space fans out there or just someone who like cool things you’d know that space x is trying to send starship on its first orbital flight tomorrow. Being a aircraft mechanic and loving everything space related stars, planets, galexies, ufos etc. I just knew I had to make the trip. With permission from the wife to let my youngest miss school and Finally after months of waiting I got the news I was waiting for Friday the FAA granted the license and now it’s time to hit the road.

If anyone has ever driven through TX you know it’s long hours. For the same amount of time from my drive way I can be in Denver going west, Pensacola going east and Sioux Falls going north but all that time was spend in one state. 1hr and 15 south of the Oklahoma border to 3 mins north of Mexico.

Luckily my parents are half way between point a and b so I made a surprise trip to stop and see them. Along the way I counted 6 mavericks 2 Oxford white 2 carbon gray 1 avalanche tremor and one velocity. I don’t know if any of you do it but I have a running joke with my daughters every maverick I see I wave at and say look at my freind.

I was hoping to have my mods done before I posted it on here but oh well I’ll do another post with mods later.

Parked next to friend at heb and when I got to my moms I got to introduce my truck to his older brother 66f100

I started out Saturday 4/15 1hr north east of Dallas(home) cruise control 67 set at eco

Home
13830 miles
30.2mpg
96 to E

Had an appointment in Dallas and after I continued on to Hillsboro where I filled up.
Hillsboro tx
13935 miles
30.4 mpg
512 to E
Gas was $3.19–$49.10 total

Between Hillsboro and my next stop I went from 512 to E up to 535 to E and ended up at 368 to E.
Devine tx
14178 miles
31.2 mpg
636 to E
Gas was $3.36–$21.25 total

I filled up in Devine just to have a full tank in the morning and cause I knew that qt had good gas. I arrived at my moms and have a fresh start in the morning.
Moms house
14200 miles
628 to E
31.3mpg

got up and hit the road and forgot the back way we always took was so curvy and slight hills didn’t get the best gas mileage increase but arrived at starbase before lunch like I wanted to.
Boca chica tx
14507 miles
229 to E
31.8 mpg

after leaving Boca chica I made my way to South Padre island arrived in Port Isabel with 177 to E and filled up the stripes didn’t have the best gas I knew I should have went to the heb pumps.
Port Isabel tx
14543 miles
545 to E
31.8 mpg
Gas was $3.23–$36.31 total

Now checked in to the hotel for a while I’m currently sitting at
South Padre Island
14554 miles
526 to E

Now fingers crossed we have launch tomorrow and afterwords it’s straight home 11.5/12.5 hrs straight hopefully no traffic. I’m really pushing for a 700+ tank somewhere but we’ll see if I don’t get in on this trip I don’t know when I’ll make another trek like this again to try and achieve my goal. I’ll update my mileage and gas when I get home

Made two round trips down there in Jan and end of Feb. Went to Space X and it is amazing how close you can get to the rocket and tower. Stayed at Isla Blanca RV park for two months, but drove my Maverick home for a week of work before going back. I live to the northwest of Ft. Worth. Sounds like you must be in Grayson County, Cook County, Fannin County or Collin County. It was a 11.5 to 12 hour trip for us as well. Following behind a motor home, I set it a bit lower to about 62-63 mph and averaged right at 34 in EBoost, which I just sold and bought a Lariat Hybrid. Leaving out tomorrow for Texarkana, then on to South Louisiana, so waiting to see how it does on highway. Been doing around 43 just around town. Be safe and hold on when the ground shutters and shakes. Where are you watching from?

Yup, have worked every zip code in Hunt County when I did HUD foreclosures - Greenville, Quinlan, Cumby, Commerce and everywhere in between. Hope you guys have a great experience. I will just have to listen since I have to leave at 6:45 to go to Dallas and have a minor eye procedure done at 8:30. This should be an unforgettable experience for the kids. I am sure the park will be packed to the hilt. Be safe coming home.

Love aircraft, space, and all things galactic and universal physics related myself. Cannot express how much I distrust Elon Musk(this is going back almost a decade). Going to Mars is a great thing. Colonizing it without first setting up shop on the moon to mine for fuels and materials(and take advantage of its low gravity launch efficiency, not to mention its slingshot) for colonizing Mars is a big mistake. Exciting for sure and have been to shuttle tests and launch as a kid and it is something to remember. Hope you have a fun trip. Texas is big for sure, as a former long haul trucker and cannonballer I can make quick work out it though.

It might end up being the worlds largest firework but that's ok! Love what SpaceX has done to push humanity forward! Elon is brilliant!

Bummer they are calling the launch off at 10seconds. Minor issues but enough to call off.

Pressurization Issue Delays SpaceX’s Massive Starship Rocket Launch

SpaceX on Monday scrubbed a test for its massive Starship rocket after a pressurization issue occurred during the countdown leading up to the launch in Texas.

SpaceX founder Elon Musk said the problem stemmed from a frozen pressurant valve. The company said that it would take at least 48 hours before another launch could be attempted.

Musk tweeted that they “learned a lot” from the attempt and will retry in a “few days.”

I'm going to try to avoid the obvious comparison joke between the Maverick and Space-X failing to launch...

Tomorrow we are making a cross Florida trip from Clearwater to Kennedy Space Center to watch the Falcon Heavy launch and then a trip North to St Augustine and then back home the following day. Looking forward to calculating mpg on my Hybrid Lariat Lux.
