I like Roadmaster products, and have installed them in about 7 vehicles. in the past

HOWEVER, since Roadmaster baseplates require you to literally destroy your Maverick's active-shutter system, I am going to have to go to Blue Ox baseplates. I'm not going to risk getting into warranty issues for having altered the motor's cooling system and letting Ford blame the baseplate installation.

It is worth your considering...

Really good consideration. If there were only an elegant solution to cutting up the bumper. Even thought of buying an FX lower with the hook holes but seemingly still would need cutting in addition to $400+. Quite a quandary and mine is in production.

Is the FX a hybrid? Otherwise it can’t be towed.

Mine is a Lariat hybrid towable 4 down. The FX lower fascia has the cutouts for the hooks.

Thanks for posting this. There's not a lot of information about what is needed for flat towing any vehicle never mind the Maverick. I had to learn on my own by asking questions and searching sites to find out what was needed to tow my Chevy Colorado. Lot's of configurations regarding base plates, braking systems, tow bars, etc. After all that, never really got to tow the Colorado as it caught on fire. This led me to the Maverick due to its ability to flat tow albeit with some restrictions but nothing drastic. I opted for the Roadmaster set up for the same reasons . . . no major hacks and better quality. Very useful and informative videos; straight forward and no flim flam. Vietnam vet to boot.

Good reason to go with the RoadMaster base plate.

Only the hybrid is definitely towable four down.

You think not cutting into the lower fascia (with Blue Ox) is better than destroying the active-shutter cooling system? It isn't THAT difficult to cut a nice hole in the fascia for Blue Ox. You can even add trim if you get the hole a little too off-the-mark.
EDIT: This post was made before seeing the Blue Ox failures...and before Demco came up with the best solution with no warranty issues created by cutting off the lower shutter system.

Geez, with the market for flat tow demand one would think Ford would have a factory option for a base plate or at least a set of heavy duty threaded holes for base plate and or tow hooks. Maybe even wiring harness plug

You are right. Ford may eventually come to realize it would be an option worth an easy $1000+ and have a minimal production cost to add a Flat-tow package. Ford has never marketed to the RV crowd or even seemed to notice the demographic at all. We've been left on out on our own to learn that ALL of the FORD hybrids have been flat-towable (unlike Prius).

Once Honda stopped approving the popular CR-V for flat-towing, it sent a lot of the RV towing market to Jeep...all the while, Ford was trying to sell the 2013-2018 C-Max Hybrid as a lower-MPG Prius alternative. It didn't even try to get into the RV towing market.

I have set up 2 C-Max Hybrids for towing. The 2017 C-Max has Active Shutters, but the only thing I had to remove was a small shroud to install my Roadmaster baseplates...not do major modifications as required with the Maverick.

I think I'll do a poll as to how many here plan to flat-tow their Mavericks. Probably a surprising number.

You're right. Roadmaster: "...you will need to extensively trim the Active Air Shutter system." By "extensive" they pretty much mean 'remove'. One might have problems with the warranty with that little hack. I was leaning on my experience with the Colorado whereby the RoadMaster was hardly noticeable as opposed to the Blue Ox, but of course, we're talking about a completely different vehicle. However, I do like the more robust fittings that RM offers. Thanks for the input . . . excellent point.

I put Roadmaster baseplates on my 2003 Chevy S-10 4x4 (after I had a driveshaft disconnect installed). Very simple installation of the 2 separate plates onto the frame members. Similar on the 2 Rangers I set up. All of the "unibodies" required an internal crossbar (like the Maverick) and removal of some minimal pieces. The 2005 Acura MDX required simply removing a crushable bumper piece and replacing it with the steel crossbar.

Roadmaster really let us down in the Maverick baseplate design.

With a base plate or anything to attach a 2":receiver to it would be easier to push my 12 ft trailer up my brother-in-law's triple S 1200 drive up to his mountain cabin and then back down with trailer following!
