Recommend Demco baseplate and Air Force one all the way. Do you need the aux line? I installed, but usually leave the fuse out as I’ve never had any 12v issues. We’ve put in over 4K towing behind our bus and never had any charge issues, but as i said, my brake system is AF1, so no real power drain other than occasional brake/turn light power to run the led strip light i installed under the tailgate to enhance visibility..

I use the power from the 7-pin to keep the maverick battery charged. Costs nothing, once installed. About 6800 miles towed so far, and will be another 1400 before next week.

I used diodes to run the tail lights. There is a caveat, in that my RV is an LTV built on a 2020 Ford Transit van. Occasionally, I will get an error on the dash for the right taillight (never the left). According to the Transit folks, the problem is the LED taillights in my Lariat. When it first happened, I suspected my wiring and took it all apart and re-assembled it. Then all was well...until it wasn't. I need to figire out how much of a resister I need to put on the line from the 6-pin to at least the right taillight to present more current flow so the Transit can be happy. It is completely erratic. At times, the light works fine, at times I get the dash to tell me the right bulb is off.

So if you are just starting to set up the lights, and towing a Lariat behind a Ford product RV, you might want to use some external lighting to avoid Ford's stupid light sense algorithm.

I already own a NSA ready brute II, that I used for the jeep gladiator that I just sold and replaced with a XL hybrid 2024, I have ordered the Demco base plate, I have seen the photos of the modified NSA/shock dampener, that realShelby installed, i’m trying to get more information about the shock size may be a part number? As for lighting,, magnetic LED wireless towing light kit.
I bought that shock from Speedway. Short shock for T-Bucket hot rods.

https://www.speedwaymotors.com/Speedway-T-Bucket-Short-Tube-Shock-Black-Painted,92618.html

You will have to fabricate a bracket of course for the "fixed" end. I was able to drill the NSA lever and tap that hole for a proper size bolt for the other end. This setup is still working good. I have only noticed a slight bit of surge one time since installing it. That was during a very hard stop when someone jumped in front of me as a light was turning red. Even that was not too bad. Otherwise I never think about the surge I used to get as it just does not happen.

Thanks for the reply, I was going to put one on the lower part of the hitch and one on the actuator. Do you think that’s an overkill?

I don't know about two of them. But the setup I have satisfies me. Which isn't all that easy to do!

I just got back from a 2800 mile trip. About 8,400 total towed miles. My BrakeBuddy Classic, set to 10psi pressure and "1" for sensitivity, performed great. NO application of the brakes for this entire trip. Just what I want: Legality, breakaway protection, and no accidental application.

After writing that the brakes were great, I do have an issue to deal with in the lights and am looking for recommendations.

My 2023 Maverick towed is a Lariat, thus has LED taillights. My RV is a Leisure Travel Van Wonder on a 2020 Ford Transit 350-HD Cutaway chassis.

According to the Transit folks, this is a common issue: The Transit sees the right brake/turn signal as having insufficient current SOMETIMES. Thus, it tells me the light is out and I get the rapid flash ON THE TRANSIT. It happens randomly and seems to be temperature-dependent. Annoying as hell, potentially dangerous due to the lack of signal. Ford is too cute with its computer systems (as some experienced with adding aftermarket LEDs to XLs and XLTs). Just detecting an open circuit in the taillight would be simpler and SMARTER.

I'm ready to give up and add extra lights. What lights do folks recommend, and more important, how are you mounting them? I don't want to drill into anything. Again, the diodes I used work fine, this is a Ford TRANSIT fault caused by the Maverick having LED taillights.

Well, here’s an update, the Deco base plate. I’m going to have to give it a A+ and super easy to install.

My brake set up is NSA ready brute II, I have had this in the last two jeeps, here’s a quick photo of brake cable coming through the floor, attached to the brake,

A big shout out to Shelby, I took your idea, going to be towing it this weekend. It’s only about a two hour tow out where I’m going and two hours back. I’m going to try a single dampening one way and double dampening coming back and see which one I like better.

As you can see, I’ve connected to the actual hitch body, instead of the arm, so I will let you know?

As far as lights go, I don’t mess with the vehicle at all I bought some LED rechargeable, towing package lights at Harbor freight, they last about 100 hours on a charge, and they work really well.
