In my opinion the best thing to do for the bed is tie into the built-in cargo lighting.

That way, the lights in the bed illuminate for 20 seconds when you unlock the key or when you turn on the cargo light switch.

If you don't have the cargo lighting installed by factory, the wire still runs in the C404 harness by the muffler, Pin 6.

I agree with you. I did just that. Since I have the factory light and switch in the bed, I merely tapped into that switch and light panel.
Good of you to include how to do an install if one doesn't have the factory light/switch.

Yes, the route I was going to take was around the cubby to the tail light area to access the 12v pigtails.

I’ve thought about the LED strips, but I just wanted to try something different and if they fit the hole, I think the install would look very clean. I don’t need them to very bright since it will be mostly used under a bed cover. If they don’t work as well as I like, at least I will have the wires 90% tan for the led strips should I decide to switch to them.

Hell, I could put in a rocker type of switch and put in both.

You can add a switch that will turn on the cargo lights next to the third brake light.

You need a momentary push button that grounds pin number 5 on the C404 connector that I referenced above to ground through a 100ohm resistor. When pressed, both the overhead cargo light and whatever light is attached to pin 6 turn on. Same as when the cargo button is pushed in the cab.

Ty said the smoke looks good. I'll post a better pic when they arrive.

I bought the orange lense and I'm undecided about the lights. I'm adding lots or orange to my Catus Gray Maverick, so I'm simply seeing this as cosmetic for now...

This is a very cool mod. It kind of answers my question about adding a 'sentry' cam in this location (like what we've seen on some electric cars). Looks like it's entirely possible, but I'm sure it'll depend on the sheet metal opening and what's behind it. Heh... I don't have my Maverick yet, but if this vehicle isn't a truck for makers, I don't know what is. Thanks for sharing a great project.

Thank you! My project is only made better knowing that it has inspired others to do their own modifications not necessarily exactly what I did.

There is a surprisingly large amount of room behind the badge and a cam would easily fit behind it (if I read your post correctly). We have a Hyundai that has a 360º over the top view and it's such a neat feature I was hoping there was kit for the Maverick. Turns out there's one for the Ranger, but the side cams are made to fit in the side view mirrors and the Maverick has no such capability. Your post brings up the question of why not put the cams in the badges?

You're welcome, and thank you for resurrecting this for me. I gave up thinking of how I could use the all-over cam system in the Maverick, but your badge post has me thinking again. Of course, I'm a bit stumped on how to do it now that I use them for turn signals.

Hey sir do you have any more pictures or video of this in action? I wanted to see if the cool white version would work as splash lights if I ran them to the dome circuit. Thanks!
Hmmm... might be a good idea for PUDDLE lights. 🤔😄

Waiting to see how much light transmits through the "smoke".

Neat stuff in this thread.

My plan is work on puddle lights at some point here. I got the puddle lights already just need to find some time to get it done and nicely. I'm trying to splice as little of the factory cables as I can.
