I know I have seen this answered somejwh0ere on forum, but cannot find it. Guess that is part of growing old - forgetter works 9better, while most of body does not.

Do the last 5 digits of VIN numbers for a particular model of a vehicle - like the Maverick - roll over and change. If first issued one of, say MY2023 was 00001, and one issued for a build say at end of March was 30001, does that mean 30,000 will be built during that timeframe?

I have always wondered how this works. To make kit simple - If Mr. Smith gets a VIN number ending in 32214 (or something similiar), does that mean his truck will be number 32,214 th built at whatever date from first of year?

3 - Check Digit - Used to detect fraudulent VINs.

Note: The check digit, found in position 9 of the VIN and compulsory for vehicles in North America, is used to validate a VIN. This is helpful for computers to immediately tell if there is an error or issue with the VIN. The check digit is calculated by removing all of the letters and substituting them with their appropriate number counterparts. You then take those numbers and multiply them against a weight factor table. You then have 16 numbers which you add together and divide by 11. The remainder is the check digit. If the remainder is 10, then the check digit is “X."

Great information, thanks. It would be nice to know the break down of orders, i.e. XL, XLT, Lariat. I have a rapid red 1st edition AWD/tow. Kinda think they didnt make too many of them?

For 2023, they skipped the next letter, "O" because they don't use it because it could be confused with "0"...so...

Thanks. Just so I am clear, let me give you a number (with a couple of the last digits changed), then let me know what the last ones mean. I am fairly clear in what you mean down to the R for the Hermosillo Plant. Starting with the A forward. Does this number mean this will be the 32,325th Hybrid built since they started building them, or the 32,325th one to be built for MY 23, or since 1/1/23, or does it mean the 32,325th TOTAL MAVERICKS built for MY 23 or since 1/1/23. That's where I get confused trying to figure that one out.

I do not believe that they sequentially roll off the line. VINs are assigned and serve as the "Invoice" and "instruction" to the factory as to how to build the truck. That assignment, in my case, occurred about 8 days before my actual production began.

But it would be a safe bet if your VIN ended in PRA32325...there have probably been at least 30,000 that rolled off the line before you.

@fordvideoguy or @KevCuRaoi or one of the others have more intimate knowledge.

My 1/23/23 produced xlt had a vin of A195nn. Vin numbers are assigned sequentially and then assembled when all the items are ready and plant determines which assembly sequence of vin numbers makes more sense. Say maybe Juanita calls in sick and no one else knows where the 4pin Hitch harnesses are? Or God knows what. So some vins are rescheduled. Maybe they want to build in groups headed to same ramp on the same rail car so need to be parked together for loading?

@JBryant

VINs are assigned when scheduled (prior to invoicing, which takes place 10ish days before the build date). So the final numbers basically indicate your place in the scheduling sequence. As we all know, build dates can be shifted around based on material availability, so the VIN doesn't indicate the build order. (But it likely does roughly correlate with when it was produced relative to other VINs).

The numbers would be for all Mavericks, not separated for Hybrid and EB. Just for the 2023 model year. Not total Mavericks. Not calendar year. As someone already mentioned, a different part of the VIN indicates the powertrain.

VIN = Vehicle Identification Number
There is no need to say/type VIN number.

I happen to know for a fact that vin numbers are not assign in sequential order. I received a tour at a Ford plant and was given the real fact on that.

So if you and I plus one other person were assigned vins right behind each other, then you might get 12345, but I might get 12146 and the other guy get 12401, just for illustration?

The vins might get assigned sequentially at Scheduling (when vin is assigned) but they won't be built in order.

Got it and now understand. Instead of a 123 being followed by a 124 being followed by a 125, etc., they might build the 125 before the 123. Thanks a million for breaking it down simply. After all, I grew up in Louisiana and have to have it simple.
