Got it and now understand. Instead of a 123 being followed by a 124 being followed by a 125, etc., they might build the 125 before the 123. Thanks a million for breaking it down simply. After all, I grew up in Louisiana and have to have it simple.
Exactly. They are assigned sequentially, but production weeks get pushed back and pushed up constantly after the VIN is assigned. I am a good example. My VIN was generated in mid-September 2022. Then plenty of people had a VIN assigned that was higher than mine that got built before mine (eventually) did. I ended up being bumped almost exactly one month from my original production week. My VIN ends in B05275 (which corresponds with the 105,275th Maverick VIN assigned for the 2022 model year. The B means they rolled back over to 00000 after assigning 100,000 VINs). I believe we figured out Ford made around 115,000-119,000 before stopping? So I was built in the last week of 2022 production, but my VIN was roughly 10,000 below the last one they actually built. They did not build 10K Mavericks that last week, I can assure you that!

This was my flow after I was assigned a VIN. Notice the flip flopping of production weeks. Most of this is quoting/word for word from the Ford Chat Agent I was speaking with that week.

1. Scheduled to Week (Week -of Oct-17-2022 ) for the build process.
ETA(delivery): Dec-16-2022 - Dec-22-2022

2. The schedule week of production is as follows: October 27, 2022. The estimated time of complete production is December 16-22, 2022.

3. Your vehicle is expected to go into production on 10/17/22! It's also estimated to be delivered to the dealership between 12/16 and 12/22/22! Just in time for Christmas!

4. "Production is due to begin on Week -of Oct-24-2022"

5. Chat agent says.... Your current order status is In Order Processing and has been scheduled to week of Oct-31-2022. At this time the order has an estimated delivery date between Dec-16 - Dec-22 which is only an estimate and what is currently on the order status.

6. Chat agent says..... I show your Maverick is scheduled for production the week of November 14th. The ETA is December 16th-December 22nd. With your VIN and sales code, you can start tracking your vehicle order at: https://shop.ford.com/vehicleordertracking
Please reach out to your selling dealership if you would like to request further details.

7. Chat agent says..... "I am currently seeing the scheduled day for Production is November 18th, 2022. I see the estimated time of arrival from December 16th to December 22nd. However, once in Transit this may reflect a different final estimated date."

No wonder our insane asylums are filling up so fast. Based on what you went thru, I would assume most people checking into them are people who ordered Mavericks LOL. You would think a huge corporation like Ford could get things flowing more smoothly. Based on what you went thru, it looks like they were luck to be able to give you the YEAR in which it was going to be built, much less the build date. Glad you finally got it. Fortunately, my wife and I bought two that we will trade in once ours are built. No word on hers yet, but at least I have a vin and a build date - well build dates.

I know I have seen this answered somejwh0ere on forum, but cannot find it. Guess that is part of growing old - forgetter works 9better, while most of body does not.

Do the last 5 digits of VIN numbers for a particular model of a vehicle - like the Maverick - roll over and change. If first issued one of, say MY2023 was 00001, and one issued for a build say at end of March was 30001, does that mean 30,000 will be built during that timeframe?

I have always wondered how this works. To make kit simple - If Mr. Smith gets a VIN number ending in 32214 (or something similiar), does that mean his truck will be number 32,214 th built at whatever date from first of year?
Vins are assigned in order but not always built in order. I notice that with our orders and also from talking to plant managers at the plant.
