That's probably good advice. Plus waiting a bit lets the techs figure out the best way to replace the airbags in the shortest amount of time. That could make the difference of being able to wait for the job to get done or having to leave the Maverick at the dealer and come back later on to pick it up.
Everytime I'm at the dealer they ask me if anything needs repaired (all of my vehicles are new and under warranty). I don't know anyone at the dealership and I did not purchase any of my vehicles from this dealership. This just happens to be the closest dealer to my house and that makes oil changes and miscellaneous visits more convenient. This is my explanation for the warranty work making the dealer 🤑 big money!

I had called my dealer this morning after receiving letter from Ford that recall parts were now available. I got the same runaround as others have pointed out, dealer said they could not order parts unless airbag was deployed. Said they are waiting on seed-stock delivery of recall parts and they have several enterprise rental mavericks waiting on these airbags also, and I would just have to wait until seed-stock came in. I said how will I know when that happens and then he offered to take my information and notify me when that happens (couldn’t believe I had to make that suggestion, it should have been automatic).

The prequel to this story is that 3 weeks ago I received call from dealer saying they were proactively calling me to schedule two recalls which they were aware of from my vin number. I said “great news, let’s set up an appointment”. She said “sure, please give me your contact info b/c you’re not in my database”. I replied, “ How is that possible, I have been there at least 5 times for Fuel Tank recall, and then Fuel Sending Unit, and then another Fuel Tank replacement to fix faulty Fuel Sending Unit….”. It was then that she indicated she was not from my ordering dealer, she was from a different Ford dealer which is a located a few miles away from my dealer. I told her I would call my dealer, which I immediately did…..

I spoke to my service rep at dealer to schedule airbag recall and told him about the call from the other dealer. He said other dealer was probably slow in their service department in early January and so they were looking up vehicle info by vin and cold calling owners to schedule work. I’m not sure if I should be irritated at this or happy that there was a proactive dealer out there. The jury is still out on this one ….

So on that call with my dealer 3 weeks ago, the service rep advised me he would order the recall parts and call when they are in. Then a few hours later he called me and said they could not order the parts unless the airbag was deployed, and I would need to wait until I received a letter from Ford indicating the parts were available. Well…… I received the letter from Ford on Saturday indicating parts are now available…. I called dealer this morning …. and they told me again they couldn’t order unless airbags were deployed …. 🙄

Just posting this to see if anyone else has run into this. I recived another letter from Ford stating that the parts for my curtain airbag replacement under recall are now avaialble. I called my dealer to have them ordered and I was told that they cannot order them unless they are deployed. I told him that was BS and not what the letter from Ford stated. Has anyone ran into this? Should I call another dealership?
I just watched a youtube video over the last few days for a Maverick review, (think it was a Tremor review), and they mentioned this. The current air bags will work, they just do not meet the government spec to what Ford specified. They are literally 1/2" short on the edge(s). So don't give up totally on you're dealer. So this is why the priority is given to trucks already in a crash.

The notification I received today is that there is an active recall on my vehicle AND that parts are available AND that both Ford's "commitment" together with the dealer "is to provide you with the highest level of service and support."

Folks are rightfully getting antsy when none of those are clearly true.

My Rep. stated parts are on order, 2 month wait is anticipated.

I work at a dealership in warranty. It is very very common for letters to go out to customers stating that parts are available, before parts are, in fact, available.
Parts may be available, but in specific circumstances only.

For 22C20, parts were at first available for unsold in-stock units w/ signed buyers orders, and sold vehicles w/ deployed airbags only. These were by specially order through SSSC. Ford was also going to send "seed stock" out to dealers.

I tried ordering parts for my own hybrid Mav a few weeks ago.... and was denied because my airbags are not deployed.....

I just checked now.... The seed stock note is gone. I don't see the note for for deployed airbags anymore. I tried ordering the airbags for mine (which must still be done VIN-specific order through SSSC)....and I get an error saying that some attachment is required??

The FSA instructions don't say anything about a required attachment.....

It may be a carryover requirement from when proof of a sign-buyers order/deployed airbags was necessary.

So, to me, it looks like Ford may have recently removed the "deployed" airbags only requirement (but I didn't catch the usual update Ford sent out when changes like that are made).

It still isn't easy to order the parts.... They are not on open order. I can probably try attaching a random file and see what happens next.... but SSSC is very picky.

Previously, even when the side curtain airbags were available, some bolts that are required to be replaced were not available. I don't know if that has changed.

So your dealer probably does need to check into this more. Parts might be available now, but it certainly isn't easy to order / or clear what the requirements are to order these parts.
This is sort of making sense now. I contacted my dealer to have the recall addressed and they required a pre-visit to open a RO. After talking to the service manager, it appears all they needed to order parts was the mileage off my truck. Now it is a matter of waiting to see how long it takes to get the parts.

I noted my experience in another thread, but will repeat it here:
When I took mine in last week (Feb 1) , they didn't move my vehicle from where I parked it.
They came out, popped off the Pillar covers, took photos, and put it back together.
They told me they had to verify some numbers to order the correct airbags, then would call me to schedule coming back once the parts arrived.
I am still waiting on that call, but I know my dealership well enough that I expect to that call tomorrow or Wednesday if they actually got them ordered last week.
please keep us updated. Thanks

SO! If replacing the air bags and head liner has to come at least partially down would this be a good time to have dealer install rivnuts for roof rails or possibly oem roof rails (If they are available YET, I have not checked)?
