Scratched my tailgate while putting on the tailgate assist. Should I cover this with touch up to prevent rust? How quickly do I need to apply it ?

It’ll probably get light surface rust pretty quick if it gets wet. I would. Probably not a huge issue though. If it gets light surface rust just hit it with some steel wool before painting to remove the rust

Seal an touch it up, the sooner the better. Right away would be best.

I ordered some touch up. For now, I just threw some clear on it until the touch up comes next week.

Tailgate is steel, I think only the hood is aluminum

I've used wax to seal and cover scratches till a proper repair can be done. It worked but I have nothing except my experience to back it up.
