Faced with uncertainty as to whether either of the two hybrids I have on order will actually get delivered, I opted to pay "extra" for a '22 FE rejected order from a local dealer. It had everything I wanted (including some things I would have added after the fact) and I decided that it was worth spending some of the "equity" the inflated used-car market gave to me on my previous truck (sold for $20K above "traditional" market value) and my Prius-C (sold for about $5K "extra").

To me it was worth it to get the truck I wanted (albeit in my 2nd-favorite color), given the low odds that BOTH my hybrid orders will come through in '22. I've got a truck I'm happy with, and that makes the "waiting game" a lot easier...

Do what you think is right. Who cares what others think? They're not in your shoes...

My worst mpg with my hybrid so far is 28 mpg, and that was driving in 8-11º weather, into a 20 mph headwind, driving 75+ mph speed limit on the highway. Then three days later, my average for the complete tank is now up to around 36 mpg, with my latest "trip" (only 11 miles) showing 50.4 mpg.

So exactly how will the Ecoboost match the hybrid's economy? I don't believe that's accurate in ANY real world situation.

I don’t have a Hybrid so I can only go by what I read. It’s your choice. Do what makes you happy.

Chicken-egg? Dealer needs allocations to get hybrids built. Dealer needs to sell the EBs to get allocations...

Yes, I know it isn't completely 1-for-1, but I wonder if dealers building up EB inventory starts to hurt their hybrid chances.

So, hybrid owners are reporting anywhere from 26 mpg (worst) to 40 mpg in the cold. Ecoboost is also seeing worse mpg in the cold (22-29 mpg). So I guess if you take the "best" EB mileage and compare to the "worst" hybrid mileage you could make a case... But the super-cold weather is only 3-4 months up north, and maybe 2 months (with most of that NOT super-cold) down here in Texas. I already voted with my $$.

An old saying when I was a kid was "A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush." I have two in the bush somewhere in the order bank, but because they are hybrids, not sure they will even get built, so I bought an EB XLT and must admit I love it, even though it did not have all the things I wanted, nor was it the color I wanted it. At least I have that one "bird" in my hand I can trade in when one comes out of the bush, if it ever does.

I’m sorry, I thought I was communicating with the OP who was looking for input to assist in their final purchase decision.

I see now you are not them and therefore don’t really have any business replying to as if you were.

Good Day Sir!

In Missouri you would want to wait and purchase it after the 1st to avoid property taxes next year.
In my state of Illinois, we only have property tax on Property. Land or improved land. Never on possessions. But, we do have high Property tax.

(rant) It happens all the time, EB owners saying they are "almost the same" (talking about mpg) in some context.

No, nope, not even close.

Comparing the EB best to the Hybrid worst, the hybrid wins, by a significant margin.

And yes, life is more than mpg. (end rant)

On to our regularly scheduled prorgam.
