Apparently, squirrels like my Ford Maverick hybrid and my wife’s Ford Escape hybrid. My wife’s Escape “check engine” light came on about three weeks ago and on FordPass, said it was the knock sensor. I took it to have Ford repair center look at it, and all they did was reset the knock sensor warning, which came back on two miles down the road. I called them back, and they were backed up three weeks just to have them diagnose it, so the car sat in the driveway until yesterday, when I got an appointment at the Lincoln dealer across the street from them. Upon a visual inspection under the hood, they discovered acorns in several spots and rodent turds. They said the damage so far is $1200 and advised me to call my insurance company. The squirrels chewed through wires. From what I searched on the internet. Squirrels are looking for nesting places in the winter. I need to get rodent spray to hopefully keep them away.

So since her Escape has been deadlined and now at the Lincoln repair shop, she’s been driving my Maverick. When she got home yesterday, I looked under the hood and found rodent turds, but no acorns.

FYI to anyone who experiences this issue, and it ends up being an expensive repair, your full coverage auto insurance WILL cover this.

They will, less the deductible on your policy. Total damage was $1201.1. I had a $500 deductible, so I have to pay the other $701.01.

In a situation like this it might be personal preference on whether or not to use insurance. But, like another poster mentioned, I have seen these repairs go into the thousands of dollars, and even had a late model Lincoln MKZ get totaled over severe rodent damage once.

You really think mice can't get in a garage âť“
I had a client tell me once "I can't have rodents I live in Rancho Santa Fe" (very expensive zip code) I literally laughed out loud and said I don't think they care my friend.

Squirrels are an excellent source of sustainable protein.
I don't have to worry about squirrels after my Maverick. They're too busy raiding the bird feeder full of sunflower seeds. They usually don't walk away thanks to my pellet gun! Mmm mmm good!

One Word; Garage. With an addition; a sound emitting deterrent that has meant no critters for 6 years,

I have two plug in ultrasonic devices in each garage. Purchased on Amazon. Device claims it will work for rodents, cockroaches, and other things you don’t want in your home or garage.

Would it make a difference if the vehicle is a daily drive?
I can not believe this rodent stuff is even a thing but clearly it is!

My ex in-laws put 300k+ miles on a blue Grand Am like that with minimal maintenance. They bought a newer Pontiac that was always in the shop until they got tired of that and sold it...
That whole platform was pretty solid. I had a Beretta that survived longer than it should have the way I drove it. My brother successfully raced em for a number of years aswell.
