Here's the "nonsense" we're talking about. You bought a $20k truck whose ENTIRE dash is made up of plastic. If you think that is going to be void of noise, good luck to you. Call the dealer and take it in. People complain about the biggest bunch of nonsense on these trucks as if they have bought their dream vehicle. It is THE MOST entry level truck in the entire US market. Buyers who seem unaware of this when they take delivery is so odd to me.
I get that rattles can be annoying. But, lets be clear. That is a pretty light rattle. I don't listen to music loud, but what I listen to including podcasts would mask that noise. Am I saying you should ignore it? No. Take it in and let them work on it. Hopefully your local dealer (s) have a good service department and will really put some effort into getting this fixed for you. I am more sensitive to it because I am in the business. But, what I mean is the public complaining and the making of a minor issue as if it is something major. And I guarantee the OP and others are the type to be that way in person as well. It takes so much energy and so much time to come on here and post a rant about a minor noise. It is mind boggling to me that people do this. I understand that you bough a truck with a $36K price tag. But, again I know people hate hearing this; you bought a $20k truck with a lot of options. There is a difference. I have seen SO many owners let the smallest nit picky BS ruin their entire ownership experience on otherwise great cars. I just hate to see that with the Mav as well. Especially considering that it is a brand new vehicle, hard to get, and an entry level vehicle. BTW, my truck has that same ticking, but it seems to go away pretty quickly when the cabin warms up. And lastly, you can do what I did and put sound proofing in all the door and behind the back seat and numerous other places if you really want to get carried away and that helps the interior sound and feel a ton. Here's the "nonsense" we're talking about.
I'd turn up the radio while Ford takes ownership of the issue, but my door rattles from the speakers too.
Am I expecting too much for $36,000?
You could always...Dear Ford,
The '70's called. They want their engineers back. I am from Iowa and have a lot of family near Des Moines so last December 13 I was thrilled to order a new Maverick. Appeared to be the perfect size vehicle with more than enough utility for my needs. Looked like the perfect vehicle. And the deal offered by Granger Ford was fantastic. I was finally able to pick up my new Maverick from Granger on Saturday morning, 10 days short of one year from the date of order. As others have said in other forums, the Granger process was flawless. Drove back to the Twin Cities that day. The Maverick is perfect except for one flaw mine has. Some type of noise coming from passenger side of dash. Could be A pillar or base of windshield. It sounds like something rubbing against something else when in motion. Not quite a rattle. Seriously Ford?? I have not experienced such nonsense in two decades. It was routine in the '70's and early '80's. But in 2022??
For a little background, after growing up a Ford guy, I quit the brand in 2005 after bad quality with a 1996 Thunderbird, 1999 Taurus, and a 2002 Mercury Sable. Prior to that it had been a 1988 Escort GT - fantastic - several Ford Tempos, a 1993 Thunderbird, and a 1993 Taurus LX wagon. All very, very good cars. But then the Jacque Nasser cost cutting era hit and the product showed it. Since 2005 it has been a succession of Mazda products. Over a dozen new and used. Not a single dash rattle or noise in all those cars and years. I didn't even know it could be a thing anymore. I was hoping it being late in the first year of production things like that would not be an issue. In fact, I purchased a 1991 Mazda Miata two months ago. A 31 year old Miata. Not a singe rattle or squeak. I have a 2001 Miata and a 2011 MX-5. Same. Nary a squeak or rattle.
Now I have a brand new Ford Maverick that I want to be proud of and drive often, but every time I hear that nonsense it is just an irritant and a reminder of why I quit the brand in the first place.
Great product placement. Great pricing. Great utility. Everything about it is spot on. Except for this irritation. You need to be better than this Ford.
My rant is over.
Good luck everyone!
The product is defective. That's a fact. And fine, sure, it's a 20k vehicle in the end. But I still need the basics and Ford has failed to deliver that for me. And for that, I will continue to cost them hundreds or thousands of dollars in labor at the dealer so that my multiple issues are fixed.I get that rattles can be annoying. But, lets be clear. the time Ford saved was not in the road testing phase- which uses "pre-production" vehicles. It was saved in development with fewer meetings and high-level sign offs required to name a few.All this dumping on the OP is unwarranted. At the Maverick release, Ford went out of their way to strut and preen to the media about how they took one full year out of the normal new vehicle development process with the Maverick. Five recalls and counting later we're still discovering all the big and little things that probably would have been discovered and fixed in that extra year of road testing.
As for the OP ranting and whether rants belong here - I think the Ford Motor Company CEO would be the first to vote in favor of rants. Ford monitors these forums, and Ford needs to hear how frustrated many customers are at an endless series of Maverick program failures big and small. And yes, Ford also needs to hear how happy many of you are with your Mavericks.
Ranters, rant away! If nothing else, it's fun to watch you trigger so many forum members who are surfing on the thin edge of mental stability. I swear some people run out to the garage every morning before coffee and lick their mavericks clean with their tongues.
You do you my guy. But, again. I can see you being extremely unhappy over minor concerns. Start/Stop is a stupid feature anyway. I am amazed that people care if it works or not. The speakers are 10 cent pieces of shit. But, I wonder if you are getting trim rattle from speaker noise, or is it the speaker itself? How often does your infotainment screen not work? For me, that would be the biggest annoyance by far.The product is defective. That's a fact. And fine, sure, it's a 20k vehicle in the end. In addition to the rattle:
1. My center screen on the dash fails to come on.
2. The speakers rattle.
3. Auto start stop doesn't work.
I'm not here whining that it doesn't have leather or massagers for 36k. I'm complaining that my rattle has continued since April and TWO dealers have not solved it AFTER more than 10 visits and hundreds of dollars of out of pocket costs to me.
They are not minor concerns at all. They are major defects that have popped up on a vehicle with less than 12k on the dash requiring many hours and dollars on my part. They are features I paid for, and so is the warranty which has been useless. You do you my guy. But, again. I can see you being extremely unhappy over minor concerns. At some point, you may wish to consider to sell the Maverick and move on with your life, given the volume of complaints you've made over myriad threads. The product is defective. That's a fact. I agree. Unfortunately, that would mean thousands of dollars of losses...again, at my expense. At some point, you may wish to consider to sell the Maverick and move on with your life, given the volume of complaints you've made over myriad threads.
Two things. That rattle is neither a major concern or a major flaw. Anyone who thinks so, might be a little insane, and certainly not rational. I used to have a GM who I loved. He was VERY customer focused and loved to make people happy, but was no BS. I have seen him address this kind of thing with clients before. IF the dealer is doing all they can to address your concerns (this is super important. if they are not this is a different conversation) but he would tell them. Listen, I hear what you are saying. But, you bought this vehicle for $xxx. With that there are certain expectations. I have cars that are $60, 80 and more. If you want that kind of experience I can get it for you. But it comes at a price. When a consumer buys a base model vehicle and has concerns like squeaks and rattles that is as much on the consumer as anyone. Do research. If people are saying things about a model you don't like, don't buy it. If you buy a first year base model vehicle then you are potentially signing up for some troubles. This is not new in the car business. Love it or hate it. That is the reality. Now again, the cluster thing is a different category of failure. But if the dealer can duplicate that concern, which should be quite easy given your description then it should also be an easy fix. They are not minor concerns at all. They are major defects that have popped up on a vehicle with less than 12k on the dash requiring many hours and dollars on my part. They are features I paid for, and so is the warranty which has been useless.
The screen is the center screen on the gauge cluster. 9/10 times it doesn't come on when it's under 40 degrees.
Turn this around: I agree to pay Ford 36k, only to turn around and say "Nah, you know...I only see my truck being worth 26k. I'm not gonna pay you the 10k." You think they'll be ok with me not delivering on a promise? Doubt it.
Those seem like easy fixes..... road-test/c-m for the rattle, replace the meter, replace the speakers, trouble-shoot AS/S for a fix.....The product is defective. That's a fact. Your last two lines are spot on. It is unfortunate that we buy cars and they have problems. Nobody wants that. Not the manufacturer, not the dealer and certainly not owners. But, the dealer can and does make or break an ownership experience. Especially when it comes to people who are walking the line of holding unreasonable expectations. A good tech and a good advisor should be able to handle this fairly easily. Those seem like easy fixes..... road-test/c-m for the rattle, replace the meter, replace the speakers, trouble-shoot AS/S for a fix.....
Yeah, Ford is technically at fault, but it sure seems you have a dealer problem more than anything. No excuse to be getting the run-around for those easy fixes.
