I drove my 2007 HHR with Blizzak's and they performed great in the northern Michigan snow. Drove that car with just FWD for 11 winters, with 2.5 miles of unplowed road every morning (5am) to the highway. I prayed a lot when the snow was deep, but never got stuck. My FWD Hybrid XL arrived in January 2022. With its standard "all season" tires I was not pleased with its performance on unplowed roads with only a couple inches of snow.
Over the summer I watched Craigslist and eBay for steel wheels, bought a set of four, and put Blizzak snows on them. I'm looking forward to seeing the difference they make this winter.
We get more snow here in NH than Maryland, but if you need to drive in snow/ice conditions you'll want good winter tires or better quality all-seasons like Nokian WGR4s.
One post here stated there is a difference between 'all season' and 'all weather' tires. They recommended to get 'all weather' tires. I think that's marketing bumpf...One post here stated there is a difference between 'all season' and 'all weather' tires. They recommended to get 'all weather' tires. I was unaware of 'all weather' tires, fyi.
This is my plan. No need to swap tires. They do everything year-round.It might be worth looking at the Michelin CrossClimate2's, they are getting some pretty positive reviews for all-weather performance.

Yes, I put Blizzak WS90 on mine. And am in a very snowy area. I wouldn't want to drive a Maverick (FWD or AWD) on the stick all-seasons here. The OEM all-seasons only started w/ 8/32 tread.Has anyone with Fwd hybrid put on winter tires? Does the Maverick need them in the snow/ice?
Goodyear ASSURANCE WEATHERREADY are "all-weather" tires. Quite a few of my family members up here in WNY have tried them and really liked them. They do well for them even in the snow. (But I still like the winter/snow tires - especially since the hybrid Mav is only FWD).Yes, I put Blizzak WS90 on mine. And am in a very snowy area. So far I am happy enough with the hybrid Maverick w/ winter tires!
You won't have much snow to deal with. Not sure how much ice you get though. They do make "all-weather" tires, which are "in-between" all-season and winter tires. That may be an option for you. Or just get the cheapest snows you can find.
Viper for the win!OP, I too am in Maryland and just purchased replacement tires for my Hybrid, I went to have them installed today but the shop was full.
My Maverick is 100% street driven, I have other AWD and 4x4 vehicles, and I wanted excellent street manors, a light tire for the hybrid, and a more capable tire for bad weather and winter. I don't care about the best off road capability, the best dedicated winter tire, or larger size on this truck. I went with the new (to the U.S market) Continental CrossContact ATR in the stock 225 size. They are light like the OEM tires at 25 lbs yet 1" wider tread due to the more square shoulder design. These have been used in Europe and Australia for years.
We'll see how they perform....
