Sorry for the stupuid question but can you open your tonneau cover past the first lip? Will those elevated rails work with any tonneau cover? I'm looking to get Bison trifold tonneau cover but wanted elevated rails to mount our bike racks; however I still want access to the bed.

Hi,

I'm ordering my Elevate Rack System now, and the only thing that made me pause was not wanting them to sit too high above the roof. I love the new height settings you created and want to do the exact same. Could you give a brief walk-thru of how you did it? I'm trying to understand the extent of tools needed and decide if it's something I can do myself or not. Thank you!
Obviously the most difficult part is the cutting of all (8) tubes. It's your choice on how straight / accurate / clean you want it to be. So with that said you could do this with a hack saw. I used my band saw with a metal cutting blade and finished with a hand file to smooth out the edges. The most critical part is the drilling of the holes. I can't stress enough to take your time build it out completely to get the measurements that you want. I used clamps under the outer tubes to hold them in position(s) to verify / mark drill hole locations. I used my drill press, but you could do this with a hand drill as long as you verify complete & straight thru holes both inner and out tubes. If not done proper bolts will be difficult to install. Note: since I used my drill press I used the outer tube cut-offs with the original holes as my guide when drilling the inner tubes. Let me know if this makes sense to you. When done I cleaned up all sharp edges and used Rust-Oleum Mat Black on all bare metal areas. My neighbor who works at Space-X building parts for the Falcon & Starship was really impressed on how it came out, he made me feel good...

I've struggled with this for months... I originally wanted the Yakima Overhaul HD w/ HD crossbars combined with the BAK X4S. In the end I choose the "Elevate Rack System" b/c I felt it was the most workable solution with best price, availability and relatively easily modified. Bonus is the discount that RealTruck offers us.

I began the install this past weekend. To Start the BAK X4S & TS Rails installation is very straight forward and easy. The only modification needed was to trim the rubber seal against the back window. My modification may have been due to the Bedrug so do the full install to verify if trimming is needed.

The majority of my time spent was on the Elevate CS Racks. To be fair the rack install itself was very easy, my time was on modifications! As we all know the Mav is a small truck and IMHO this rack is made for the larger ones, but can be modified to work; at least for my needs. Bottom line, I wanted the Low / High settings to both be lowered. Additionally, I wanted multiple between settings to align with my Yakima Roof Racks for my kayak among other things.
Pic #1 Shows trimmed window seal
#2 Bedrug, BAK, TS rails
#3 CS Racks original low & high no crossbars
#4 Modified racks - 1-1/2" cut from both ends, re-drilled holes (don't use the original top holes).
#5 New High mount set points.
#6 New Low mount set points.
#7 Now it's aligned w/ the roof & doesn't block the brake lights.
#8 Aligned w/ Roof Racks.

I'm really pleased with the final results and the only thing that I would change is increase the end cuts from 1-1/2inches to 2 inches.

I hope this helps..

I believe I read you had the roof rack was installed at a specialized place. May I ask how much it costed material/labor. I am handy and all but drilling near the airbag seems too much for me.
It is the most impressive upgrade in your setup.

Did you consider trimming also the top beams a couple of inches too?

He mentioned before that he can not open it but it takes just a few minutes to remove the bara/beams from the rails

My cost for all the Yakima roof H/W including a 15% discount was $750 and $300 for installation.

That does make sense - thank you! I have a miter saw that I feel should work well for cutting, but the drilling is what concerned me for the same reasons you listed. I'll have to try and track down a shop that could do that work for me. And good tip on using the pre-drilled portion as a jig for new holes. Thanks again!

hello,
what kind of accessories are you able connect to the top of the bar in the elevate rack system?
There is a slot I believe, you remove the rubber gasket and then? I have tons of Yakima circular accessories and I am trying to see if I can use them with Elevate Rack system.
thank you
Has a slot after rubber removed. Attachment is a "T" about 3/8" to a half inch wide by 1" long.

Can anyone tell me if the Elevate Rack system will work with a standard t-track other than the TS Rails? My goal once my maverick is delivered is to pair the Elevate Rack system with a Diamondback cover.

Now that I have seen the success @glpuckett had with cutting down the Elevate Rack to not extend over the cab it has sold me. The other option was the Yakima Overhaul HD system but I have yet to see anyone modify it.

Hi there everyone. Brand new on the forum here. My Maverick should be delivered early January and I've got a few questions hopefully someone can assist me with.

We do a lot of camping and kayaking in the summer so I need an option that allows for a rack/rail system while not impeding bed/tonneau cover. I also don't want to spend a ton on it.

Is the Elevate rail system from Truxedo still the best option?

I plan on adding a tonneau right away and then adding the rails and rack down the road. Is this easy to do if the tonneau is already installed? I have a whole list of mods and additions I've excited about but I plan on incrementally doing these while we've still got a few months of winter in Michigan.

Anyone know if this is compatible with the Elevate system? It's inexpensive and has good reviews. Salesman assures me it's compatible.

Thanks in advance.

There are a few covers the Truxedo TS Rails are certified to work with. But most that sit between the rails and clamp to the rail sides should work.

As far as I can tell this is still the most cost effective and flexible system to go with. Keep in mind that a Tri fold may hit the rack, even at the highest level. But a roll up may not be ideal. A retractable is a great option but expensive and takes up a chunk of the bed.

I have not installed the Truxedo rack, but my understanding is it should be pretty easy. I have read the instructions carefully as I likely will get them and a cover when my Maverick comes in. You'll have to remove the tonneau, install the rails, then reinstall the tonneau if you do it at a later date.

If you are trying to spread out the costs, you can get just the TS Rails now. They come with a set of cleats as well, so does have some benefit. They are only like $180, you can install them along with the cover then do the rack later. Benefit would be not having to uninstall the cover. Also you can confirm the rails and cover work together while still in a return window. Food for thought.

I honestly think that makes the most sense. Of course if I go with a different rack system I won't need those rails.

I meant to mention that you may think about a headache bar or universal roof rack crossbar and hitch extender.

I'm thinking about the Keko Sports Bar and one of those elevated racks that go to your trailer hitch. That setup would be about $800. While that's less versatile I think it would be a little less. The Tri fold wouldn't hit it, and the sports bar looks pretty cool. But I'd mainly be using it for a kayak that would span.

Instead of the Keko bar you could just use a $150 universal roof rack crossbar and do it pretty cheap.

@glpuckett,
Sorry if you listed this already, but what model are the installed roof rails?

Thanks!

Here's a picture of the Elevate rails and rack with Undercover Ultra Flex tonneau.

I just noticed your pic! I have the same bed racks and have some questions about your setup. How long is your kayak, do you have any issues driving on the highway (cross wind) with your kayak setup, what kind of kayak mounts do you have and how high does it sit up from the cross bars?

I'm trying to figure out the best & safest way to transport my 17 foot kayak. Part of that process is getting some roof rails installed to give my kayak more tie down since it's so long or do I really need it?
