The engine has to come out, cause the HF45 is huge, you can see this in the pics.

Ford labels it as a damper and flywheel, it is a friction driveline clutch in my book.
I drove mine today, with paying very close attention to the operation and interaction of the shuddering ICE. First i hear/feel the vibration/shudder right in front of me, i can feel in the toeboard/pedal different vibration.

Pretty much anytime the ICE changes mode/on or off, you can feel a change of position, a shudder, it apperas to me friction clutch is not holding and it shifts rotational position.

Another problem with this is dealerships are saying i dont know what it is, so we are going to have to drive them until it fails totally and comes apart, before they attempt a repair.

We will be hearing about these failures more and more as people put more miles on their Mavs, i was hoping it wouldnt come to this, and i was even accepting a little shudder here and there.

I have 12000m on mine and its getting worse and frequency is almost all the time.

Ford is going to have to do a redesign, if not, we will be getting these changed regularly because of a defective design. I have gone though this before a few times with a dual mass flywheel, on the 7.3s, on the dual mass flywheels on the Jettas as well, i have replaced more then my share(maybe i should not whine about it but embrace the business opportunity).

Hope this info makes others understand what the failure is and how to approach it. Its in Fords hands now, lets see what happens.
Taking your hybrid Maverick to the dealer to address this problem is a complete waste of time until Ford offers a fix in a recall the dealer could care care less until then😉

Hi there. Will you send us a message with your VIN and dealership info? I'd be happy to look into things on my end!
I can send my VIN etc. I have had my Hybrid XL since January and have had the shudder almost since new. It started in the morning after making my first stop when going to work. No AC on. No heat on. When accelerating from stop the shudder would start and I would lift the accelerator for it to stop. Wouldn't happen again until the next morning. When I took it to dealership at 5k miles they said there were no issues but they changed some settings. Now it shudders after driving a while and when braking. Two days ago I started the truck after a 5 Mike's drive and and hour parked. When the engine started without leaving my parking spot it shuddered so bad I expected the engine to fall out. I let it idle and it stopped in about 2 minutes. People who had just pulled in next to me looked like what the @&$!. I have seriously started to consider getting rid of it. Currently 5700 miles.

I refer to it as a driveline clutch, it is indeed a friction clutch setup, with a heavy emphasis on dampning.

Just like the battery cable lug disconnect, Ford doesn't recognize its a problem yet, so off into the 23s go more defective hardware.

I dont know what it takes for Ford to recognize problems, they surely dont monitor this website for any kind of known problems.

Maybe next time around? 2024 say?
Where, in the system, is this friction clutch?

This shudder happened to my Maverick with less than 200 miles on it twice today. I thought maybe it was happening because I was hitting the brakes at the same time the ICE shutting down during deceleration, so I tried to watch for it to switch before hitting the brakes, and it didn't happen again. But we will see. I've also already had that odd lurching as I come to a complete stop.

Quite frankly, this hybrid system is less refined than the one I had in my 2012 Hyundai Sonata.

Hi there, Doug! I can look into your Maverick's shudder concern on my end. To get started, could you please send a private message over with the name/location of your local Ford dealer and your Maverick's VIN?

Have my Maverick for 8 days and have experience a sudden jolt as on a slight hill in reverse and then put in drive and slowly start moving and then half gas pedal to move and felt like an old torque converter engagement.

Today had the shudder but think it was the ice engine rapidly going on and off as was on a slight incline and trying to stay in electric and the going down hill at around 20-30mph. Will watch if it repeats. 500 miles on the vehicle now.

I'm keeping a running log as fyi to others and their ideas. Ford has contacted me, first received the the reply along with some DM and a case number. Call tonight, which did not answer as did not recognize the number.

It happen again Thursday as well while almost home and got up to a few over the 30mph speed limit and the shudder happen again when took my foot off the gas pedal and beginning to coast. (Did not drive the car again as did ceramic coat it but 2 no no as the fog got it soaking wet and was in limit sunshine. Will update this post again and when and if resolved 566.8 miles and averaging 44 mpg in mix driving. )

Sorry you are going thru this with a brand new vehicle. I know this is a very tough question but does the shudder issue make you regret buying a first year model?

We have thought about what you & some others are dealing with & if ours (waiting for a car hauler to bring it to the dealership) has the "hybrid shudder" issue, we are not sure how we would even handle it...sell it under warranty with a full disclosure of the issue or keep it & wait for Ford to address the issue like they have done with the wiring harness & the special service memo on the braking issue. The shudder seems like a more serious problem 😢.

No, it was fairly brief and no vibrations yet indicating something is about to self destruct. Optimistic that if it gets bad, there will be a better part going in. Really don't know what to expect so will enjoy Midnight Blue and monitor. New Hampshire Oil treatment on Monday and then will install the mudflaps and tonneau cover. Looking forward to having the vehicle a long time.
