I have never owned a hybrid before and what happened this morning was a bit of a surprise to me. Normally, when I start the Maverick in the morning and it’s warm outside like mid 70s, the truck would start with the battery. I know this because it just a silent start. Today it was about mid 60s and a bit chilly so when I started the truck, I was a bit surprised to hear the engine roaring into life. I guess Titsy needs a bit of fire to get her going in the cold morning. Once we got going for a bit she got back into EV mode in no time.

60s is a cold morning? :p I don't think mine will usually start when it's that warm out....but maybe mine is used to colder climates. I'll have to pay attention more...I don't think my ICE usually starts initially unless it is the 40s or cooler.

The engine needs to start sooner and run longer when it's cold outside to get up to operating temp. So you can expect a noticeable drop in gas mileage in the winter months as well....especially if your morning commute is fairly short.

It was 39 when I started my bike this morning to go to work and I consider THAT warm for November. Thought I'd have those heated seats in the Mav last winter but...........

60, cold? :ROFLMAO: It's 33 here this morning, supposed to hit 28 tonight. Nothing unusual to see here folks, just normal hybrid operation in cooler weather. I find the Maverick Hybrid does rather well in the cold, thanks to the shutters over the rad, warms up faster than my old hybrid did, without a doubt. I'm sure it would be even better if not for the stupid non-fix from the recall eariler this year.

Trying not to comment on the name "Titsy..." And failing... :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

Anyway, my wife thinks 57º is cold... We moved to the Austin, TX area this June. Had about 90 days in a row with temps over 100ºF. Now it's November, and it's still 80º or better for the highs. We'll probably get some cold weather eventually (when you guys up North run out of places to put it and send us a Polar Vector), but my Prius doesn't need a warm-up yet... It did last winter, when it was 17º out.

*Sits in the corner and tries to not comment on how much I surprisingly enjoy a heated steering wheel when it is 58 degrees outside*

It's 62 degrees today here in Central NY. I'm celebrating another day of above normal temps with my door open at work. 70 here this weekend which is about 20 degrees above normal.

I've noted a drop in mileage (or increase in L/100km) and its not even dropped below 0c yet. I mean... I understand why, but sure loved that warm weather fuel efficiency!!

The Mav will start right away for a few reasons:

If the HV battery is low

If you have the climate control heat turned up to anything above ambient

You press the accelerator "more than a little".

I'm sure there's more but I'm still looking.

Once it starts, it won't shut off until the water temperature comes off the lower mark of the analog needle gauge.

Not warm enough for EV:

Below the "C" coolant is less than 120'F

C = 120'F
EV needs 122'F

First tic mark = 155'F

Not quite vertical = 185'F

215'F (towing uphill on 96'F day ) needle still not quite vertical. I think we need to exceed "normal" limits to get the needle to move past vertical.
