What specifically makes the hybrids more difficult to manufacture?

I don't believe Ford builds their own batteries. Like many other automakers (even Tesla) Ford builds battery packs using cells produced by a supplier. And that supplier relies on a refiner for the minerals required by the cells. And the refiner relies on a mining company.

Rura Penthe.

While the dilithium mines were staffed with prisoners, Ford leased the regular lithium mines and have been using the 3,000 employees they laid off from the ICE division starting in August.
But at this point, it would only be about as deep as a ditch.

I am not sure why anyone cares if they make their own batteries or not... Ford has the resources to build mavericks, but they don't want to allocate those resources there. They would rather allocate them to F150 lightning or mustang mach-e. Mavericks are the bottom wrung.

Ford does not build their own maverick batteries or CVTs. Most automakers nowadays really only assemble vehicles from parts made by hundreds of suppliers around the world. This is why everyone is always yelling about "supply chain issues".

Automakers rely on reliable production of thousands of parts from hundreds of manufacturers. Gone are the days where raw material entered a factory and a completed vehicle rolled out the other side
I spoke to a person at Ford HQ (or supposed to from) today I have been bumped to MY23 (Org order date Oct 2021) He told me there was is transmission problems with the Hy bred. Didn't say what kind but but hinted parts. He also said (at this point) the roll over will not cause a lot of paperwork. Ford was going to handle the switch over. I ordered an XL and I am hoping the MY23 has the standard cruise control. By the way (at this point) means don't believe everything you hear. Good luck to all

One of the biggest issues auto manufactures have this year is that one of the global leaders in the production of wiring harnesses was in Ukraine. The plant is building stuff for the war now, so that meant that automakers had to scramble to find other sources. I have no idea if Ford was using that manufacturer to make harnesses for them, but the situation would put more pressure on other manufactures.

Given that hybrids need heavy duty harnesses, along with the growth in EV sales means there is greater demand for high voltage vehicle cables.

I don’t know why so many people want the hybrid when it’s 2wd. I have put almost 20k on my fx4 maverick and never have I said, I wish I bought the hybrid. My eco boost has 250 hp and that is enough, but I couldn’t see the likability of a significantly less powered 2wd. I had a 2wd truck once, and when you get stuck or slide all over, your going to want to trade it in.

As the old saying goes, one mans treasure is another mans garbage. By that I'm not saying either is garbage by the way.

I for one see no need for AWD or 250hp. Get plenty of snow, never needed AWD/4WD, just a good set of tires. I like sending less of my money to rich oil tycoons, I perfer the eCVT transmission. Hybrid more than powerful enough unless you are putting 1400 pounds in the back on a daily basis. Personal choice is what it comes down to.

1. Try to open your mind a bit and understand that what you like is not neccesarily what everyone else likes. There are likely many people who would say "I don't know why so many people want the Maverick when it cannot xyz. When you need to pull something big you are going to wish you had an F250."

2. If you are sliding all over or getting stuck, you might want to reconsider your driving technique/skill.

Obviously a front wheel drive anything is going to handle a lot better than a 2wd pickup. Its hilly where I live. When the hills are covered in snow, a front wheel drive minivan does just fine.

*Casually glances out the window at an Escape Hybrid AWD...*

The supply chain is a disaster right now. "Not much actually" is 100% false. They are constrained on most items. Suppliers are shipping parts via HELICOPTER to keep plants running.
Where did you get this information? I just read an article that says supply chains are improved, although there are still some specific problems. Some chip makers are reporting that sales estimates for the near future are down due to stabilized demand.

Helicopters?

And the global lithium shortage.

I think it also comes down to history. Small trucks went away because no one bought them. Ford made fewer hybrid variants of their other models because no one bought them. So, what evidence did they have that anyone would want a hybrid small truck?

By the time Ford had evidence to the contrary, it was too late. Supply contracts had been signed. At best, 2024 is when Ford adjusts the hybrid/EB ratio.
I did not buy a small truck since 1975 because of bad mpg and 8-15k overpriced. I have bought 2 mavericks so far this year. The wife loves her hybrid maverick since March and I love my hybrid I got two days ago. (Aaarrrggghhh, I had check engine light on mine this am but it turned out to be failure to rotate key far enough to switch truck on, just got too used to the ready button in wife's lariat😂)!
