What specifically makes the hybrids more difficult to manufacture?

I agree. If I can't get the hybrid Maverick, what's the point? There are plenty of other small pickups that make more sense than the EB maverick.
There are? I've missed them during my research for small pick-ups then. I'm pretty sure no mid-size trucks are as efficient as even an EB Maverick.

By the time Ford had evidence to the contrary, it was too late. Supply contracts had been signed. At best, 2024 is when Ford adjusts the hybrid/EB ratio.
They may also need to adjust the price relative to the EB.

That depends on your definition of small.

I need a truck with a length of no more than 200 inches to fit in my garage. As far as I know, only the Maverick and the Santa Cruz meet that criteria. If you know of another option, please share it.

Not much actually. Ford builds their own batteries, they have 100% and complete control over the supply of that. Four builds their own ecvt and it's actually a much simpler and less expensive build than an 8 speed automatic transmission. The constraint is the fact that Ford only planned to build a 35% mix by virtue of their business plan, and had not ramped anything up for supplying production beyond that.
They have 100% control of all the components that go in to the batteries?

Actual I don't think they make their own batteries.

Who said Ford owns a Lithium mine?
It was stated that, " Ford builds their own batteries, they have 100% and complete control over the supply of that."
To have 100% control they must have their own mine.

Still.... Would go a very long way for Ford's damaged reputation to ANNOUNCE a plan for getting all these hybrids built.
Nah, people would argue that it’s inadequate, and things would change such that the plans don’t work out anyway.

"...their great new hybrid truck getting 42 plus miles to the gallon..."

Just to remind those in queue for the 23's (those MTC Members that weren't part of the 2021 Ford Fun Festival)...Lots of Hybrid orders were placed in 2021 before:

  1. Ford had the OKTB (I think that's what it was, "OK To Buy") which delayed the Hybrid's Release until a few months after the first EB's were sold/delivered
  2. The actual City MPG's for the Hybrid were verified, originally published as "40 MPG City", which changed to "42 MPG City" about the time the OKTB was granted.
This sent as a reminder of the mayhem that occurred the 3rd and 4th Quarter of 2021.

We now return to our regularly scheduled programming...

The supply chain is a disaster right now. "Not much actually" is 100% false. They are constrained on most items. Suppliers are shipping parts via HELICOPTER to keep plants running.

And the global lithium shortage.

I think it also comes down to history. Small trucks went away because no one bought them. Ford made fewer hybrid variants of their other models because no one bought them. So, what evidence did they have that anyone would want a hybrid small truck?

By the time Ford had evidence to the contrary, it was too late. Supply contracts had been signed. At best, 2024 is when Ford adjusts the hybrid/EB ratio.
I hear what you're saying, but the evidence was definitely out there if they actually looked. Their wild success now turning into what looks like abject failure is, weirdly, evidence that how they look at the market is just messed up. They need better outside consultants.

Where is the Ford lithium mine located?
Rura Penthe.

While the dilithium mines were staffed with prisoners, Ford leased the regular lithium mines and have been using the 3,000 employees they laid off from the ICE division starting in August.

Ford does not build their own maverick batteries or CVTs. ...........
No.

Ford builds their own batteries for the Maverick Hybrid at the Rawsonville plant in Michigan.

Ford builds their own eCVT and the Emotors that go into them at their VanDyke plant in Michigan.
