Hi folks; I'm a prospective new buyer of a Maverick. Wanted to get your advice before pulling the trigger.

Bit about me:
I've been driving 4 door sedans since my first car (Mazda 3, now Dodge Avenger) I recently left the army and started working on a farm, I have a 55km commute, about 5 km city, 45km highway, and 5km dirt roads, usually ending and parking in a field. My hours are your typical farming "sun up till sun down" which means this commute is being done at peak wildlife activity times.

My Avenger just hit 200,000km and a coyote, and the coyote did way more damage than it had any right to. (Power steering, radiator, oil pan, plus fog lights and Boer damage, undrivable for a bit.) So I'm looking to replace it.

The Maverick's fuel economy is a big draw, and I'm hoping that with a steel bumper/some sort of grille guard it might be able to shrug off such collisions and not need downtime; that's the first question; what have your experiences with roadkill incidents been like?

Second question is basically a reliability one, I know these trucks are new, but surely some intrepid folks have already pushed theirs above 100,000km (60,000 or so miles) what's given out on you and how pricey was it to replace? How much downtime did the vehicle take?

Third question is, how well does it do in snow?

Thank you for your time, and if you could specify if you have the 2.5l with electric assist or 2l eco boost I'd appreciate it, considering both.

Well, you have some time to decide as the 2023 Retail order window has closed. By 2024 we should have some better long term data to share. I love mine 2.5L Hybrid, Lux. Ordered July 2021, Received May 2022. Only 3500 miles thus far. 43 MPG (80% city/20% Hwy).

Well, the dealerships around here have a handful of both models on the lot? Though with some options I don't need.

Yeah, and most likely with markups over MSRP (ADM) you don't need either. :ROFLMAO: But, with that said it would probably be well over a year, maybe closer to two before you would get your hands on one unless you pay the dealer's ADM. The choice is how much of a premium do you want to pay for an entry level truck.

Meh, the mark ups aren't that much over MSRP, like, $31,000 ish built the way I want on the Ford website, $35,000 at the dealership.

If I try to milk another year out of the Avenger I run more risks of being out of a car entirely, and having to sell it as scrap/parts, whereas if I sell it now it will likely cover the difference between MSRP and dealer price.

(prices in Canadian dollars obviously)

This truck is more like a car from damage standpoint. So factor that in with consideration. Hard to get parts. Seems Ecoboost has had less apparent issues than hybrid. Hybrid seems to have been minor and fixable but take a while due to parts and labor shortage.

Snow boils down to tires and drive. AWD is ideal, FWD for many. They have some decent tires for upgrade. If you're willing to pay the markup seems like a good vehicle. I've test driven only twice but liked. Have my '23 on order.

How many dealerships are near you?
You have some time, so watch which one has the lowest ADM, then call the Sales Manager and ask for a meeting with him. Don't waste your time on a salesman, you'll likely get a clunker.

Tell the S.M. exactly what you're looking for, (choose the Ecoboost at this time - not today's discussion) and ask what dealer added options will be available to you upon purchase. Don't try ANY negotiations at this point! You are just looking for information and trying to build a rapore with the S.M! Then keep in touch weekly at least and watch his lot.

When an acceptable truck appears, make your deal with the S.M. if possible. Your negotiating angle will be to ask that one of the dealer installed options be thrown in under the ADM.
This has not been tried by me, so no guarantees, but good luck!

It is very good news for you that your local dealers have stock Mavericks! My 6 area dealers(Green Bay, WI.) have not had a single Maverick on the lot to my knoweledge! Plus, I have only seen 4 Mavericks in the wild to this point. I don't get out a lot, 10-12K miles/year, but still 4 Mavericks? They must be going somewhere.

Jump on it!

I had to wait over 13 months to get my Hybrid built, it arrived yesterday. Bought a nearly identical FWD EcoBoost in July and paid much more ADM. So no experience with snow yet. But I do live on a farm with mostly dirt roads. We had 5 inches of rain last week from the remnants of Hurricane Ian, and the Maverick felt much more sure footed than our 2WD Madza pickups.

I had never paid over MSRP before, but the Maverick is worth it to me.

Once we ordered the Hybrid, our old trucks started needing repairs. Did you know that a new catalytic converter for a 2001 F150 costs $3,500? We found that out the hard way.

The Ecoboost feels really fast, too.

Let me put it this way. We are putting in an order for a vehicle from my wife exactly one year from when I put in my Maverick order, and I fully expect for her to have her vehicle in possession before me.

Disregard what I said about them having them is stock; they just lie on their websites to waste my time apparently.

I ran over roadkill deer at 75mph and it knocked one of the wheel spats (tiny wind deflector installed on the wheel well in front of the tire) off, but no other damage. A lot of people don't like that part anyway and remove it intentionally. I was driving a Malibu before this and don't think I would have been so fortunate with the lower ride height of a sedan.
I'm just over 10k miles, nothing other than the scheduled 10k oil change and preventative check that they do at that mileage to maintain warranty.
No winter experience yet with the Maverick, but I'm a tougher than most- always had FWD and all-season tires in Chicago. Never found myself in a situation I can't get out of, even with sedans. Don't expect any issues with the Maverick either.

It's common practice for dealers to show car/trucks on their websites that are ordered but not actually in their possession or ones ordered by customers. The old get you in the door retinue. If it gets you in their door you might buy something else. Yes some do lie through their teeth so don't take skepticism on your statement to heart. Show a photo or two of these mythical beasts to still the skeptics. Personally never seen one on a dealers lot yet.
