If I was in FL and knew my cars ran the risk of being flooded I guarantee that I would leave the Maverick! I would be leaving in my antique and classic cars and let the modern plastic cars get junked.

Seems like a number of folks have never been in a hurricane.

Yeah - drive out of the state. You and 2 million other people. The roads are at a standstill. Gas stations run out of gas. No hotels to be found.

You either leave the state a week before - which costs a lot of money, hunker down, or try to time it and drive out the day of.
That's a sight, actually a nightmare. I lived in Texas closer to Austin when Rita hit Houston in 2005. I had to skip work that day because the traffic from the evacuation of Houston made it impossible to get to work. I don't envy anyone who has to do an evacuation in those conditions.

Spoken like someone who never went through a natural disaster.
LOL. I own a place on a river in Indiana. I have been flooded out many times in thirty years. I listen to the weather reports and follow NOAA river forecasts. When I hear the threat for flooding, I prepare by moving property to higher ground or store it high. Sometimes my efforts are in vain but every heavy rain is a threat. You are the one who doesn't know what you're talking about.

And the majority of times it turns out to be overblown. Most aren't Katrina, Harvey, Sandy, Ian. And when you live in hurricane prone areas you can't leave every time it's possible. Easy to say people shouldn't stay but harder to actually work out.
You don't have to leave But get your vehicle to HI ground unless you want it totaled out. A Maverick is very very hard to replace and parts are imposable to get.

Yeah if you live in one of those areas you need an evac plan. Make sure your vehicles are well maintained, gassed and ready to go. Have 10 gallons of spare gas per vehicle, food, water, clothing, medicine and cash. And don't forget to keep good paper maps in every vehicle.

One of the reasons I went with AWD is to try to make sure I don't get stuck if we have to go around an downed tree or something. We don't get hit here hard or very often but you can get a hundred year storm and all that goes out the window.

Why does everybody keep saying "if its salty water" it was a storm surge. In case any of you dont know what that is, it IS salt water, and a whole effing lot of it!! That being said, if the damn vehicle was sitting in 2 foot of salt water, I wouldent want it. That ocean water salt has gotten into the framerails on the unibody, the rockers, doors, pinch welds etc. Not to mention if it got into the wiring harnesses. This truck can be cleaned up and run again, ya sure, but the structure will prematurely rust away and fall apart, and the electrical system will start giving problems in a short period of time. You can never get that salt out of body seams completely or out of the wiring harnesses. If it got as high as partially up the doors, then the truck is now junk.

I honestly dont get why people risk their lives and property and try to ride these things out anyways. I'd be packing my most treasured belongings in all my vehicles, plywood all my homes windows, and leave with my vehicles. My wife, and I both drive, and so does our oldest. This takes care of 3 vehicles, and I'd come back for the 4th. But I digress. I would never live anywhere near the coast in the first place. This shit happens EVERY year, and still people rebuild there. The surest sign of stupidity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results, and that is exactly what constantly rebuilding after hurricanes on the ocean coast line is. Its effing stupidity. I'm sorry but I have no sympathy. It sucks yes, it sure does, but florida gets hammered by this shit every year from august to october. I would not subject myself and my family to it.

I saw a upside down Superbird yesterday on the news, Evin if it was a replica would have been a huge loss. Too bad they dont sandbag Daytona speedway and invite all the cool cars of Florida in there for hurricanes. The high banks should be high enough.
I saw that and cried!

Superbird and charger Daytona. Storm surge, salt water, ruined. Again pretty effing stupid to leave em behind if you ask me. They should have been removed prior to the storm and trucked away. Oh well. I hope he has flood insurance on them, otherwise hes screwed. Some of you might think of me as a jerk for how I have replied, however if you have stuff you value, including your life, you dont screw around with a category 4 hurricane. You pack your stuff and you leave. By hook or by crook, you take what's most valuable to you. Hell I would have driven the damn Daytona or the superbird in the rain to get them out of harm's way. I certainly would not have left them there, even 8 feet in the air on lifts. Maybe if they were chained down or strapped down they wouldent had floated off the lifts, they woulda been filled with salt water either way by the storm surge that floated them off, but regardless. The salt water has wrecked them. Expensive junk now.

To be fair this storm flooded even middle parts of FL from what I saw on tv. Many mile for shore line It was RAIN not all flooding was surge., so not all water was salt water. Plus traffic can be a real problem. So not so easy to get out. As far as living near water well its dam nice too. If you have the money to and don't mind a damaged or destroyed house once in a while then do it. Just have flood insurance.

Yes some stayed when they shouldn't have . Have a friend of a friend who stayed and they have no power they are living on second floor of home right now . And both of the cars went under water.I heard they have a 5k deductible on flooded car. 10 K gone. I said same thing why didn't they leave. I guess its a live and learn kind of thing. They are not native FL people both from NY.

And that's what vacations are for. You visit places like that, then go home. Cost of living is too high, and ditto for the flood insurance. The insurance companies know it's only a matter of time before whatever they insure in those areas gets whacked.

Well if no one lived there full time you couldn't go for a vacation could you?

Just got the Maverick in August loved it, only had 1280 miles so sad!

I’m sorry to see you guys go through such a disaster.

I wonder if you can buy your Mav back from the insurance after they total it? Did The water get high enough to reach the computer or fuse box on the passages side? It looks like it’s close…

hope you and your family are safe

We took our FL truck to a 6 story concrete parking garage when the storm came. They charged $60 until the day after the storm passed.

Search for aerial photos of Daytona Speedway - Lake Lloyd flooded the speedway. Unheard of ...
