4,000km on hybrid and my engine light came on

I have owned a hybrid maverick for 4 months and almost 4,000km. I have experienced some of the other issues I read about:
- Radio freeze (1 time)
- Brakes not stopping and then jerking to a stop when driving very slow (frequent).
- A fairly loud clunk sound when almost stopped (1 time)

But I was coming home the other day and my engine light came on. Nothing changed driving the truck and there was no other message. I hooked an OBDII scanner to it today and it shows no codes on the scanner but the engine light is still on. Any guesses on what it could be or how to find out?

I am in Germany and would rather not deal with the Ford dealer here if I can avoid it.

I doubt your scanner has been updated to read the codes. Why not go to the dealer if it under warranty?

If your MIL lamp is on, there is a code. Cheap OBD readers may not be able to read all codes. You need to find professional level scanner to pull the code and go from there.

- My general experience with any service industry stuff in Germany has been poor.
- My general experiences with car dealers in any country has been poor.
- I am guessing it is probably 50/50 that they fix the issue.
- It is probably also 50/50 that they screw something else up.

I have found it is just easier to do things myself when it is reasonable to do so.

Cheap OBD2 scanners can't access all the codes that a modern vehicle can set. For example, it's possible that the ABS system has set a code, based on your braking issues.

Also, brake issues are nothing to fuck with, and you may have a defective braking system. If so, it will need to go back to the dealer.

I am not really sure. I haven't been in any as I lived here without a car for quite a while. Come to think of it, I don't really think I have seen auto parts stores like in the states. The culture here seems to be to pay someone else to do something that isn't your job. I can't even wash the thing in my own driveway, you have to go to a car wash.

I did do a quick check under the hood and verified the coolant, oil, and brake fluid was all in the normal range.

I would like to think that anything potentially catastrophic would throw a code that any reader could read and would put a message up on the dash.

Really though, it is silly in 2022 that we even have code readers and what not. Vehicles all have computers and screens, just display the information on the screen or put it in a menu on the vehicle itself.

I then turned the heater on full blast to get the gas motor to start and cleared the codes again. Same error.

I turned the truck off, unhooked the reader, and started the truck again and the engine light stayed off.

I will just monitor it to see if it comes back on and take it in to a shop if it does.

Okay, so it is " inconvenient" to go to your dealer. It is for the rest of us as well. You have a warranty...USE IT! Otherwise, why ask us for our best advice if you fail to heed it. Quit trying to clear your codes, if there is a problem the dealer will have nothing to go by. If serious enough, you ARE causing damage to your brand new truck, and the code will come back. It came on for a reason, clearing a code does NOT make the problem go away. Friendly advice from almost every response, GO TO THE DEALER and GET IT FIXED while still under warranty. Failing to heed the check engine lite, can void your warranty and the cost to repair whatever the issue will come out of your pocket. Is that not far more "inconvenient?"

IMO a lot of the value of these forums is to exchange ideas between do it yourself types of people.

I don't have unlimited money or unlimited time, but if I posted here and found out it was a sensor issue and I could buy a new one and replace it myself for $100 or whatever, I would totally do that instead of my expected dealer experience:

Typical dealer experience for me:
- Going to the dealer, finding out I need an appointment.
- Make appointment.
- Going back to the dealer, dropping it off.
- Dealer telling me it is ready but when I get there I find out it isn't really ready.
- Going back again when they say it is really ready this time.
- Having the light come back on during my drive home.
- Getting on an internet forum to find someone else who has the same issue and then fixing it myself...

and post 10 describes my brake issue pretty well. It also seems common that the light comes on during hard acceleration. I was on the autobahn and passing someone while going uphill at a pretty good clip so there does appear to be a connection to the other posts in that regard.
