Most likely, my error in not keeping up with the thread. I'm curious about your mirror 'tests'. You mention testing auto cruise, lane assist and lane centering. I'm not sure how these features are related to installing a new mirror.
I created a ‘jumper’ cable/wire. I unplugged connector from camera and plug that into my cable. Then plug the other end of my cable into the camera. I then came off my wire with what is needed for the mirror. Thus no splicing or tapping the factory wiring. So I needed to make sure all the camera stuff worked after inserting my cable.

Following the links in my posts will get you to the original one, with details one the cable/wire: https://www.mavericktruckclub.com/forum/threads/cheap-auto-dimming-homelink-mirror.8346/post-360643

At some point I’ll get my own thread with more details and pics.

Thanks for the explanation. No need for more details for my benefit (although other members may be interested) I installed my mirror by patching it into my overhead lighting harness rather than the camera used for lane centering and assist.

Did you use the yellow or purple wire for your power?

The purple one at the overhead, while only On when the truck is, varies based on your instrument cluster brightness. Mine never goes above 9.5v. It is not a good wire to use.

The yellow wire is a good constant 12v, but it is On as soon as you open your door and for a very long time after; at least 1.5 hrs.

For me, I don’t like using the yellow wire. I don’t like the mirror draining battery when the truck is off; I believe that is why the auto dimming part of the mirror uses the accessory power.
Also, for extra security, I don’t want constant power to homelink. While homelink does not use any power until you press a button, if I were to leave my truck in the driveway overnight, I don’t want someone to be able to break in and open my garage. That is a personal preference thing though, as some people want to be able to do exactly that: with their vehicle parked outside, and unlocked, they just open their Mav door to open/close their garage door.

Good or bad. I‘ll add some things I did with my rear view mirro on this thread. I’m hopeful it’ll help someone down the road. I installed a used 453 Gentex no compass, homelink, auto dimming. I got from eBay

This looks like a great alternative to using the overhead cab lighting harness. I may redo my mirror connections. Thank you for the detailed pics.

I had a fun time doing it. Now I have to look for other mods to do.

That is good to add. I do not have a moonroof, so my solution is for that. It is good see it is easier if one has the moonroof.
Someone could follow my template, and make a cable/harness to use that Moonroof plug.
All good stuff.
I enjoyed all my reach and install as well.

Okay I have read and re-read and re-re-read this thread now that I have both truck and mirror. Here are my takeaways, if I'm wrong please correct.

Truck - Lariat/Lux no sunroof

1. Don't tap into wiring associated with camera or it may disable adaptive cruise
2. Don't tap into switched wiring associated with dome lights as it may cause lights to go out if you adjust IP brightness at night
3. Might could tap constant 12v wiring near dome lights with understanding that might have slight battery drain since it is active up to 90 minutes after truck off.

That leaves the best route as the fuse box.

I did option #3. No issues other than my own ignorance in removing the cover properly. Made more work for myself and almost botched it. Very happy with the mirror. No deep sleep notifications since I had the 12v battery wiring harness repaired.

Okay, that makes me feel better. My truck was built in September, so hopefully no harness issues on mine since apparently it was remedied on the production line in May.

Do you know for sure it shuts down at 90 minutes?

I should add I specifically chose a Gentex/Kia mirror without homelink. I only wanted autodimming.

I did option 4: created a jumper cable to go into the camera plug. No issues, everything works.
I need to get this written up better.

If you look at my post, it is STEP BY STEP how to do it Not sure why its tough to do... I have done 3 mavericks total, with ZERO issues.,
