I figured there was going to be a hot and a ground up in the roof. Just wasnt sure if there was going to be an ignition switched hot lead up there. Easy enough to find with an ohm meter and a couple test leads.
There's a constant power on wire and a ignition on/off wire as well as a ground. You will need to connect to all three.

I only have auto dim mirror with compass. No homelink so I only need ign hot, and body ground

BTW, for those tapping into the map light switch power there's a quirk I noticed. With auto lighting on if you turn the dash brightness down (on the Lariat cluster to 4 bars, 5 seems to do as well but not immediately?) some of the control illumination like the steering wheel, drive mode selector, and map lights will shut off. If you have the mirror connected to the yellow/green purple-white wire that's powering off.

I thought I was going crazy or I'd developed some problem because I could have sworn that my drive mode switchpack previously had been backlit. Then I realized those other lights and the mirror were off and I'd adjusted my IC brightness recently.

Interesting. I thought yellow/green was the color code for constant 12v throughout the vehicle.
Wonder if the purple accessory/ignition one going to the camera has any quirks like that; I plan to use that one.

Ah, point for you. I double checked and I have mine on the purple w/ white.
The purple one at the dome light, or the camera?

The purple at the dome light is not a full 12v. I, and others, measured much less. Posted eailer in this thread; but this thread is so long, so easy to miss. Based on your findings, now we know why.

At the dome light switch connector (I didn't want to muck with the camera wiring in case a wire tap eventually became intermittent). Even if it's not 12V it's still sufficient for the compass/auto-dimming to function. I don't have use for the Homelink functionality to test.

Nonetheless I was primarily diagnosing the backlight behavior and happened to find it affected that wiring configuration of the mirror in my exploration. I suppose there's even a possibility the mirror is causing it with the load dropping the circuit at low dimness/voltage? Might be something to check.

I hear you. My plan is to make a cable with the same mating connectors on it, and plug inline between the existing wire and the camera. With the wires I need for the mirror coming from my cable. Then I can undo it if any issues.

Luckily, many of us have already installed the mirror successfully. Ok, I did it the hard way and created more work for myself, but here's a link to the thread at the point of which wires to connect to where. Hat off to Eagle11 who laid much of the groundwork and never tired of answering my questions.

I have my lariat dash dimmed way down at night. The bright dash in the backround makes it hard to see for me at night. I bet this find would be an issue for me if I install this mirror using the dome light wiring.

I did some measurements today. To confirm what I and others found. The 12v at the dome is not constant 12. The voltage does drop when you dim the instrument panel lights. The max voltags mine gets is around 9v. The purple 12v at the camera is 12v (actually battery so can be 14v). It does go to 0v when Mav is turned off. I meantion this because there are other 12v lines in the Mav that stay on after Mav is turned off; probably the 1.5 hrs (I did a test once and gave up after 1 hr; it was still 12v). These are ones I found in the console. As is what the 12v plug and USB power do.

I updated my previous post with the latest:
https://www.mavericktruckclub.com/forum/threads/cheap-auto-dimming-homelink-mirror.8346/post-360643

I went with a ‘17 Fusion mirror I had purchased before my Mav was built. Don’t like the compass taking up real estate. I did have to use the mount from the KIA mirror, but had to tweak it to work with the Fusion mirror.

Did a daytime test drive without the mirror connected, and also a night time test drive with the mirror connected. All worked great. Tested auto hi-beam, auto cruise, lane keeping assist and lane centering.

Yes he did. I have had that bookmarked for a awhile. Still waiting on my mirror.
Let us know when you get it installed
