An unknown is also what the actual payload capacity would be on a Loaded Tremor ? - Our loaded Lariat/LUX/4K/F4X/Moonroof dropped to just under 1300 with these features-

The review that tfl truck did when the tremor was officially announced showed on the door jamb of the tremor that the payload was 1240lb

Most every “Special” performance truck, on or off, road has lower payload/towing capacity than the standard version of the truck. You just have to choose what is the most important to you.

The Ranger Tremor keeps the same 7500lb tow capacity as lesser models. They payload does drop 100 or so pounds I do believe though.

IMO, it's the ground clearance/angles that really hold back the Maverick. It has a pretty robust AWD system.
Sad but true - Felt lined undercarriage - WTF / Love the truck but..

I think FX4 and 4K Tow is a better overall combo for real-world utility for MOST people, myself included. I plan to use my Maverick as a hunting vehicle but it will also be my daily driver the 90+ percent of the time I'm not hunting. I also need it to haul my side by side, a ton of wood pellet fuel, etc. On my utility trailer.

Now, the Tremor has that combo beat in looks and pure off-road capability. It's cool! But still not a viable option for me personally with the 2,000-pound towing limit.
Agreed. It's not clear to me how often the dual clutch rear will out do the standard AWD but it will never tow as much. Depends on what you need but honestly if you want to go off roading the mav is not your best choice anyway.

For the record I want AWD FX4 4k. And the FX 4 was for the wheels and display. Honestly if I had to do it over I'd probably ditch FX4 since towing and AWD give you pretty much the same capabilities.

Right the 3.81 final drive and cooling capacity of the 4k is what's pushing me that way since I live in the mountains and drive exclusively hills everywhere and will tow. Think personally I'm leaning 4k + fx4 either way such an awesome small truck!
Go with the 4K + FX4 packages that come with the additional upgrades. Well worth it. You'll be glad you got the Ecoboost and 8-speed transmission too. I'm very happy with mine.

I think you hit on the million dollar question, "How often and under what circumstances will the dual clutch rear actually make a difference over the standard AWD?"

I'll admit - I don't have any clue.

The standard AWD system is more than capable of delivering a healthy amount of power to the rear wheels.

I don't think that whopping 1" of extra ground clearance on the tremor is going to let you get very many places the standard AWD won't and I don't think that the standard AWD is liable to get stuck in anything except the most taxing conditions.

This test drive of the Big Bend vs Badlands trim of the Bronco Sport gives an idea - but it's a rather poor comparison because the Badlands is equipped with Wildpeak All-Terrain tires and the BigBend is equipped with Continental street oriented tires.

Frankly, with such different rubber, I'm not sure the increased abilities can actually be attributed to the dual clutch.

Just out of curiosity, is the 4k tow package no longer constrained? I know for a while there it was in pretty hot demand and short supply. Maybe that's not the case these days..
I don't remember 4k tow ever being constrained. Now they did stop offering it on the FWD pretty early on in ordering process, so people who tried to add it on their FWD build couldn't get it and may have taken that as constrained?

Yeah, go talk to the rock hopper crowd and they will tell you driving skill and good tires get you farther than bells and whistles. The AWD package should come with the dual clutch rear standard anyway. Marketing shenanigans mean we can't have nice things. 😞

Yep- FX4 should have at least come with 1 inch lift springs and more than just the engine skid plate, under carriage is covered with felt paneling for instance is somewhat annoying and low hanging front plastics-

Bells and whistles dont do much but tires=lockers(or fancy limited slips like this-ish) in offroading capability upgrades.

having the opportunity to drive both a Bronco sport badlands (cousins) and my FX4 4k in similar shity conditions on the farm and acreage i would say that the dual clutch isn't very necessary over the rear end in mav. neither vehicle gets stuck and at the end of the day if you need to tow I would go FX4 4K and then if you really want you can buy the dual clutch and have it installed then you can get all the extras with forscan and installing 2 switches. If you really think you need the locking capability.

They didn't do a great job of making the fx4 package actually making the vehicle better off road, particularly if you were getting 4k. If you have 4kj It's basically an appearance package.

Honestly that's what I bought it for - saw the fx4 wheels on a mav on the dealer lot and fell in love. Still think they're some of the best looking wheels on the road period. $800 really isn't a bad deal for rims, skid plate and a bigger screen, but if I had to do it over I'd probably drop fx4 entirely. Then again, I really liked the wheels - gives my shadow black mav a blackout look.
