Would the truck bed be able to accommodate the rig needed to tow a scamp fifth wheel trailer?

Curious because I don't know anything about 5th wheel setups...with body on frame installations, does the 5th wheel hitch get tied into the frame through the bottom of the truck bed? Or is it just bolted or perhaps welded to the truck bed?

It has rails that go to the frame. Then then trailer adapter attaches to the rails. I don't see how that would work on a Maverick. I guess if someone smarter than me came out with some ingenious adapter that hooked it to the tow connection points there may be some way. Just don't see enough demand on a niche trailer for a niche truck to have the design of that worth the effort (if even possible).

You got a 5th wheel under 4000lbs? Just take one of them drop hitch adapters for the 14" lifted superdutys on 40s take the ball off and turn it upside down. Then you got a hitch as tall as your bed and boom, tow what ever ya want.

I doubt it but here are three pics I took underneath the bed of my hybrid FE. One shows a black bracket apparently to tie down truck for shipment that is bolted to an approximately 7" tall reasonably thick U or possibly box shaped "replace the frame" item. There is another one on the passenger side as well. These end just out of pictures with the rear crash bar being bolted to or real close to the ends. Not necessarily in line with the center of the rear tires there is a support/brace that is about 4" wide and 2" tall that is between the two rails. The bed apparently rests on this and it may be in the way of where the retractable hitch ball will need to be. Might be a work around but I don't know. It is visible in one of the pictures. At least in my hybrid there is plenty of room. I took the pictures to show the wiring harness plugs shown in pictures which I am thinking since there is an orange HV cable plugged to an apparent HV return to front of truck that I have one that possibly could have been destined to be all wheel drive. Think unplugging the connector ends and plugging them both into a rear drive motor with Regen capability. Do not know but why else would this heavy duty harness be there?

The black "possibly tie down bracket" is only on the driver's side.

Ignore the negative Nancies in the comments. If you want to make it work you can. It’ll probably require something custom, but I’d start by talking to someone who builds, sells, or installs hitches for that trailer for mid size trucks.

The scamp 19’ should easily be under 4000 pounds loaded, but I suspect it might exceed the recommended frontal area limit. That said I’ve seen plenty of posts of people towing way more trailer and getting away with it.

Wouldn't say they are negative nancies... just being prudent. The OP gives no information like where he intends to tow (elevation?), number of occupants, etc... Assuming his EcoBoost is an AWD/4K model.

Maybe make some back of the hands calculations.

The Scamp 19' sleeps 6 people... So, maybe assume the Maverick will have a total of 4 passengers (driver +3) and their gear. So whatever that weighs.

OP is from Rochester NY... so even if he went to some campsites in the Adirondacks, he'd still probably not see elevation greater than 2000 ft.. so just reduce the 4K rating by 4%, so 3840lbs. If he's staying around Lake Ontario... well that's just a bit above sea level (250' or so), so no need to derate the 4K Tow.

Maverick also has a frontal area limit of 40' with 4KTow.

Well, the Scamp Owners Manual and Website don't give any data on frontal area or weights for the 19' 5th Wheel Scamp... But it was easy to find with a bit of searching on the Internet.

Scamp 19' has a dry weight of 2600lbs, pin weight of 400lbs.
Ext Width, 6 ft 8 in, Ext Height, 8 ft 10 in. Maverick Truck height is 5 ft 8 in.. So minimum you'd have 38" of that trailer sticking above the Maverick... Multiply that times 80" of width, and you get a full frontal area above the truck of 22'. I suppose air would run under it and over the bed and encouter a bit of the sides as the Maverick is much narrower and push a bit more against the front of the trailer behind the truck, but that's not going to add appreciably to the Frontal area.... Even if it did, it's not goint to be much more that 30' feet of frontal area total.

So, to my surprise, this trailer combo falls well under the weight limits (provided he's not putting in excessive gear, but probably not) and the Frontal Area limits of the Maverick.

Be interesting too see what options are avialable for the 5th wheel hitch that handles a 400lb pin weight. The photo shows a Ranger, which of course has a frame, so that solution won't apply directly to the Maverick.

I always wanted one when I had my old Rangers.
Good luck. 👍

Gen 2 Frontier pictured... They are an overbuilt midsize truck when it comes to structure (almost as strong as the Titan), so no issues fitting the hitch in that bed. Crew Cab would have the 4.0 litre V6 which was quite potent.

I had a Gen 2 Frontier King Cab w/ the 156hp 4cyl... Don't even ask me about towing my 1600lb popup camper (hardly any frontal area as my truck had a cap) at high elevation... I have nothing good say about the experiences. So, I'll admit, when I bought the Maverick EB AWD 4K I wanted it's 250hp/277lbs powerplant even though I have no plans to push it's weight and frontal area limitations. (in fact, my next camper, a tear drop, will be smaller and lighter).

But this 19' Scamp 5th wheel implemented on a Maverick, has my curiosity (I won't get one, but I'm still very curious to see the overall fit and performance)

Both my Rangers had 4.0's
I never owned a Nissan Frontier I've driven them but never owned one.
I wish Ford would have imported the four-door Ranger from Mexico.

The picture's are random off the internet.

I had two rangers. Newer with the 3.0, Older with the 4.0.. Slightest bit of rain and the rear tires always wanted to spin on launches with that 4.0... Really had to pay attention... It was more powerful than it need to be.. LOL!

I've owned several Nissans, but always the 4 cylinders. Would have liked a Gen 2 Pro4X Crew Cab with the 4.0.... Ufff, but the gas mileage. LOL.

Regardless, I'm sure my 2.0 EB will do my light camper towing just fine (well it tows my utility trailer like it's not there at all).

Back on Topic... I'm subscribing to this I want to see what the OP ends up doing...
