Just recently made over 3000 mile road trip from Norfolk VA to Backus MN in my new 22 Maverick to pick up my new 2022 16 ft Scamp trailer. The dry weight of the Scamp trailer was 2200 lbs and rough guesstimate that it’s just over 9 ft tall. The 1500 miles four day return trip was made in Tow/Haul mode at between 65 and 70 MPH for most part for an average of 17.5 MPG on premium gas (91 or 93 Octane depending where your at) The Maverick handled extremely well even at the occasional higher speed, the Maverick always had more than enough torque and horse power whether I passing tractor trailers or climbing the hills of Ohio or the mountains of Pennsylvania and West Virginia the Maverick never missed a beat. I’m pretty sure the Maverick will get better fuel economy when towing on flatter terrain and slower speeds but I’ll find that out later. The Maverick was surprisingly very comfortable for such a long trip, I did 15 hours straight the first day of my trip to Minnesota. The ACC with lane centering worked flawlessly and this trip was more leisurely and less like work so I wasn’t fatigued at the end of the day. I found that if towing with ACC turn off the lane centering and use the lane keeping feature instead. The Lane Centering system while towing will makes too many adjustments trying to keep both Maverick and the trailer between the lines and cause trailer sway. The 2022 Ford Maverick tows and preforms much better than I ever expected, I Truly believe that I made a sound decision and the best choice to truck ownership.

Weigh the trailer on a scale, the way you have it and then weigh how much you have on the tongue weight, you may be a little light…

I’m assuming since you mentioned lane centering that the CoPilot 360 functions all worked even when in tow/haul mode? Our Tesla can tow 3,500# but it also turns off some of the auto-pilot (T’s version of CoPilot) functions when it detects a trailer connection or is in tow mode.

Very nice to know all the details. Now wanted to hear someone repeat this with a 3500lbs Airstream Nest trailer.

This is very cool! I was wondering how it would tow a small trailer around 2k pounds. Thanks for sharing!

Why? That trailer is too heavy to safely tow once you add camping supplies and passengers. FWIW, a gallon of water weighs 8lbs. If you have a 50 gal fresh water tank on board that adds 400lbs by itself. My suggestion get a alarger truck to tow that trailer or get a lighter trailer to tow with the Maverick.

that's what I was thinking when I saw the hitch and leveling was off. Hopefully a weight distribution hitch is in his future.

Thanks for posting this! One of the main reasons I ordered a Maverick is because I wanted an efficient truck that could still tow a decent-size camper, and your post makes me think I made a good choice. Now if only a 6'5" person like me could stand up in a Scamp!

Smart answer to my stupid question. lol. I have an Airstream Nest (DW: 3.5K lbs, Max: 4K lbs) and am waiting for a Maverick with a tow package. No issue to tow this camper with Tundra but wondered if i can tow it with a Maverick w/o any issues. Thanks,
