Good article and it makes sense. PHEV really only need a level 1 power source, aka, standard 15A extension cord. They can easily be recharged over night and power usage is greatly reduced due to the much smaller battery and slower charge rate.

When one realistically looks at the overall picture, PHEV's make the most sense.

Absolutely correct in all regards. Mid six figures for 10% EV capability? That is most likely the maximum the power company would approve to the engineers. I'm surprised the powers that be did not mandate that the power company go higher and just put bigger fuses in the HV cutouts.

It's in Colorado so crazy but not quite so much. That is the conduit, wire, panels, etc for the pedestals, garage chargers, etc. Much more and power company was taking about needing more power to the area

Wrong. No political party affiliations or political leanings were discussed. I could not care less what so called party one is a member of. Simply discussing the common sense approach toward moving to more EV's in the future. Trying to discuss an approach that puts prior proper planning and a high degree of common sense into the equation as opposed to putting all of one's eggs into one basket only to discover the basket is not big enough to carry them all.

I would love cost effective, clean EVs. I hunt, fish, hike, and love being outdoors. I want a safe, clean world for my son and if he chooses his family. The idea of charging my vehicle at night and largely not having to deal with stations except for long trips is great. I am not opposed to electric at all. But I am opposed to blindly preaching it's benefit without recognizing the limitations.

This posting caught my eye and I was interested in researching it a bit. I found the quote below from a few years ago. It seems to imply that the percentage of Americans in detached housing is lower than 82.4%. Because 82.4% was for owned housing - a subset of all housing (renters).

"The US preference for detached housing remains strong, according to the newest data just released in the 2014 American Community Survey, by the United States Census Bureau. In 2014, detached house and represented 82.4 percent of owned housing in the United States."

I think the best answer I found was below? It looks like 60%? I was interested because I'm a BEV fan and I read a lot that charging is a challenge when you don't own your own detached home. I tend to ignore this because I own a home. But I remind myself to consider others not so fortunate. Well, maybe they're more fortunate, because homes are money pits.

I love how government, who can't run a business, is telling industry what to do without regards to how it will affect everything it touches. Why don't they mandate we have flying cars or better yet, telaporters? I'm not against new tech, but let the market decide. My biggest question with all electric cars is where is all the power to charge them going to come from? Oh that's right, they mandated you have controlable power meters so they don't have to worry about you using too much electricity. They just won't let you have it!

I would buy a Ford Maverick PHEV as quick as they could make me one. I've thought hard about purchasing one of the compact SUV's that are currently made. But my wife wants a lot of stuff from gardening centers and I would not want the back of my Hyundai Tucson constantly dirty from soil, peat moss and plants.

95% of my daily driving is less than 35 miles a day. But occasionally I go see my kids hundreds of miles away and BEV doesn't interest me until charging stations are abundant and quick.
