Welp. My transmission is dead I think. I was coming back home from camping and driving at a steady 75 using cruise control (speed limit is 70 out here). Noticed the transmission was holding a low gear for some reason as I was going down hill, and when the grade went flat the truck started slowing down which I thought weird, cruise control is still on. After slowing to 70 it suddenly rev'd up to redline for a split second like it got popped into neutral. I got the little wrench icon and the truck said to service soon. It seemed to work fine for a bit after that and I was fairly close to home so I decided to limp it. It was doing ok but once I came to a stop for my exit, it shuddered a lot trying to move like driving a manual with a really grippy clutch. It got worse from there and started slipping under almost any amount of power and hunting for gears so I babied the throttle and limped it home. It did ok when the rpms were below 2k rpm so that's where I stayed and accelerated extremely slowly.

It acted a lot like there was no transmission fluid in it, but the underside was dry from what I could see. I haven't abused the truck, it wasn't hot out, and have only towed twice with this thing. It gave no indication of failing besides those last dozen or so miles. Don't off-road it, don't drive in sand, just gravel roads a few times getting to camp. Completely stock.

RIP, it'll take a month just to get an appointment and probably another couple months for them to figure it out and get parts. Why me...

Just out of curiosity, how many miles are on it? I have the same engine and was wondering how much wear it took to wear out the transmission so quickly. I heard of someones tranny going out at just 2,000 miles. Makes me wonder.

Wow that's not good news. My AWD EB feels pretty funny backing up my very steep driveway sometimes. I wonder what it's going to feel like in 10k-mi, or 50k-mi...

You might be fortunate & it's only an electronic problem, a module or sensor need to be replaced.

Is waiting for a month acceptable just to look at it? Vehicle is not driveable. Maybe look at another dealer perhaps.

I called two nearby dealers and they both said the same thing ~1 month wait, I will keep calling around but unfortunately I live in a heavily populated area so I think everyone is backed up.

It's completely unacceptable, but very common right now. It took 2wks to get my Hyundai looked at in December (another dealer, the one I bought from, said 5wks..), then 5wks to order the wrong parts... Almost 3mo with an unusable car in total. But Hyundai paid for a rental for the whole time.

Yeah no such luck here. I have a second project car so I'll probably use that, even though I got my maverick because it was too unreliable.

Actually the first dealership I called was the shortest at a month. Every other place was either 2-3 months just to look at it, or outright not taking appointments at the moment. So much for service huh. This is the Seattle area and I called everyone within 30 miles of me.

Check your fuses, both in the cabin and under the hood. My dad had a crown vic back that he would tow a boat with, one day the transmission went out on it, with symptoms that sound similar to this, it turned out it just blew a fuse. Once they replaced that it worked fine again until he sold it.

@Ford Motor Company Should a 12k mileage vehicle need to wait a month to see what is wrong?
