Question please:
I am excited to have my VIN and build date of 8/22. My question is: What is the highest speed attained in all electric mode? Just wondering. Can freeway driving achieve all electric mode?
Thanks for you input.

You can achieve all electric at highway speeds when coasting, but otherwise no. If we're are just driving out of our driveway from a stop, the ICE engine will kick in at like 25mph.

Thanks. Some of the YouTube video's show all electric at 40-45mph, so just wondering.

Correctly me if I’m wrong but I believe the top speed from electric only start is 39mph, for about 7 miles, until the traction pack drains and requires the combustion engine to recharge.

The computer is pretty clever about knowing when to switch from gas to electric and back. Under low-demand conditions, my truck will switch to electric even at freeway speeds (75+ MPH). But it'll obviously switch back to gas if the demand increases. In general, a gas engine running under very low demand uses a higher ratio of fuel to motion than it does when under higher demand, so the computer will switch to electric if the battery has sufficient energy when demand is low--regardless of speed.

On smooth level ground with no traffic to worry about I could get it to switch to electric only under 60mph in normal mode. Could go for 2 or 3 miles before the ICE kicked back in.

Thanks for all the responses. Can't wait to learn how to maximize driving on battery mode.

I have seen my Maverick Hybrid in electric mode at 75 MPH on flat stretches with no head winds.

It does however not last too long in that all electric mode.

It's a load situation I've noticed. Down hill you can get it going fast. At highway speeds the wind resistance is too great for electric only. It's a fun game for a week or so to stay in electric for as long as possible but then you get tired of worrying about slowing traffic down.

I try to keep the power meter under 10% till I get to the speed limit then let cruise control take over. Way more efficient than your foot.

I think I've had more luck focusing on maximizing regenerative braking than staying in Electric only

Not gonna lie, I had a similar sentiment going into it but felt I had to stop because I was driving somewhat dangerously. At least in the sense of risking rear endings, etc if the top speed I'm accelerating to > 15 from standstill.

Also there isn't an explicit EV/Battery only mode fyi. It dynamically switches in and out based on acceleration requested from the pedal. You'll get a sense of how much you can push the pedal with the break coach screen in the dash though if you're wanting to intentionally coast it.

Depends on the length and grade of the hill you’re going down.

Simple, use cruise control. The computer is way better than we are. In my driving I will often see all electric at 60 m.p.h., albeit for roughly two to three hundred yards or so. I'll take it. Terrain matters too. I live in a very hilly area so I get alot of regen.

The most important thing that you can do is make sure that you're hitting 100% regenerative braking when stopping or slowing. Every watt captured while slowing is a watt that can be used instead of gas. Then, let the truck decide when to use electrons versus gas.

Sure, there are other things that you can do to ek out more efficiency from a hybrid, but braking properly is the majority of the game--especially with really smart computers, which the Maverick seems to have.

That is not remotely true. If you are steady with the gas and anticipate changes in terrain you can always be more efficient than cruise control.

It is less about a hard limit at which the gas engine kicks in, then what all of the variables are. If the amount of wind drag is low enough and power required to propel the vehicle at speed is low enough the electric motor will power the vehicle with the engine off. I see ev power on the freeway often, but it's not usually when you're laying into the throttle and trying to accelerate or pass. If you have the AC on lots of electric accessories, less.
