Have area51 , xlt , 360 , fx4 eco , hitch and Full spare sort of . city 23- 24 mpg (most of my driving ) . 150 mile highway 35 mpg running at mostly 65-70 mph . possible lite towing in future . fx4 has additional cooling features for trans . light transporting of material in bed . meets my needs perfectly . aftermarket bugflector and secure armour tonneau . have owned for 9 months . bought what was available but would not order full size spare . spare is not really the same tire or rim that is on the truck . great vehicle for the price .

So, you have the EB with FWD? And the FX4 Pkg for additional cooling. That sounds like a sweet combo for good EB gas mileage with occasional light towing thrown in. I like that idea! The AWD and lower gear ratio of the Tow Pkg bring down the EB fuel economy.

There's also another use case for this truck that many people don't consider: this truck is a Subaru with a bed, minus the terrible CVTs they have. It's perfect for mountain adventures. I've taken my AWD to places that I would simply not be able to get in and out of with a 2WD hybrid.

My 2014 C-Max gets 34-35 @ 75-80 mph. I drive 95% highway, 100 miles every weekday.
Kind of a waste at these speeds, no law enforcement on Texas roads. Before covid I was getting 38-42 @ 65-75. If I get stuck in slow traffic the mileage goes through the glass roof!
I bought a 2.0 FX4 and was going to trade the C-Max on it, glad I didn't.

Ummm... I'm new here, what is a C-Max please? Thanks!

The hybrid option includes a lifetime starter and alternator designed to last the life of the vehicle. The brake pads will last much longer due to regen braking. The Atkinson cycle engine is a very fuel efficient design along with being a proven engine already in use for more than 10yrs with remarkable reliability.

I am more afraid of the ECO BOOST after 100k. My experience with Turbo Chargers has been increase heat under the hood and premature oil consumption due to the wear of the Turbo.

I am on the fence about these two engine choices. If only the Hybrid AWD was an option........
I'm not sure the hybrid will be more reliable, there are two systems that must function in harmony for it to operate properly, and this is Ford we are talking about, not Toyota. Electrical gremlins seem to follow them and the eco is not immune either, I just like my chances better. If you know how to maintain a vehicle both engines mechanically should be good on average, the electrical stuff is hard to predict and can be a nightmare to troubleshoot. Of course if you keep it under warranty not a big issue except downtime.

my mileage has increased about 18 miles per gallon so far
14 gallons to fill up vs. 16 gallons on the old pickup

So I keep going back and forth between the hybrid and Ecoboost.

I drive 70 miles a day so I would definitely benefit from the hybrid, but it seems that as more Ecoboosts get into owners hands the reported mileage isn't too bad on those either.

I know FWD with good tires works just fine in the snow, and we really don't get much snow to cause too many problems, but AWD would be nice just in case.

I also don't really need the 4k tow at this time, but again nice to have just in case.
Nick, here is a video of that includes real world dashboard views of the combined mpg on a Jeep, Mav turbo and Mav hybrid of one owner.

Sure, but your use case is unique to you. The EPA ratings are the only standardized controlled test we have to make comparisons.

It was a 4 door hatchback Ford available in both hybrid and plug in hybrid versions. Last offered in the US at least in 2017 or 2018. Courtesy Wikipedia here is the last generation plug-in variant:

It is kind of like a taller Focus with the same drivetrain as the Fusion hybrid.
Fords answer to the Prius, not as fuel efficient but much more comfortable and with much better performance. Ours has 98,000 now and had the transmission replaced by the "hybrid warranty" at 93,500 miles. Dodged a $7,000 bullet on that one and that's the one and only repair done. We bought it new trading a 2 year old Prius for it, no regrets! It has heated leather seats, nav, all the options with a glass roof. I wish it had a regular steel roof because the lack of insulation does nothing for fuel economy in these hot summers. Still a nice reliable little car.

I enjoy the 2.0 EB in my 2016 escape and the wife previously had a 2017 Edge Titanium AWD with the 2.0 EB. Both were great and reliable, never had an issue. I'm not unhappy I got the same in my maverick order although its not exactly the same I'm sure....probably programmed a bit different to suit the maverick specifically. She currently has a 2020 Escape 2.5 Hybrid (same as the maverick) and its great too. Nothing wrong with either IMO..

I just did over 6000 miles on my hybrid, driving the Alcan highway. I averaged about 43 mpg on that trip, with an average speed of about 50 mpg. It does better than that in the city, and worse on faster highways. (All mpg numbers from the screen, not hand calculated.)

If mileage is your main criteria, there is no comparison, the EcoBoost will never come close to those numbers. The EB at its best will only be a little worse than the hybrid at its worst.

I endorse this comment. I had a Ford CMax hybrid prior to getting my EB, AWD with 4k tow package.

My Maverick gets a lot of love for fitting my current lifestyle but as far as my preferred powertrain goes, if I didn't need to be able to tow, the hybrid would easily win.

In the conditions discussed here, the Maverick Hybrid would probably get better mileage than Ford advertises. It also supposedly handles better and, based on my experience with the CMax, it would be more refined and probably have better longevity.
The AWD and FX4 EBs handle much better with a planted feel. Independent rear will always ride smoother that a torsion beam. That along with the hybrids slightly harsh braking that has been reported uncounted times all over any forums.

Pros and cons to both. Hybrid will still always be the most efficient by far.
