I want to put a deflector on the Maverick but I don't know much about them.

The stock one seems to mount with tape - can anyone verify?

I'd be much more inclined to get one that installs using existing mounting points instead of tape such as this one -

Anyone have info on these?

My current car (a 2017 Chevy Cruze) came with a dealer-equipped deflector, but it was an adhesive-backed model. I liked it, so I plan to install one on my Mav eventually too. I wasn't aware that any of them were installed with mounting points at all - mine and every other one I've seen uses tape or adhesive. I think I prefer the flush-mounted look of the adhesive ones.

As long as you install them correctly, I can't imagine a functional difference between the two.

I just hate putting anything adhesive on a brand new car/truck paint.

If you mount it and leave it for 10 years and then it breaks off or something I'd hate to see spots where the adhesive might fade differently than the rest of the paint. Not sure if this happens like it used to on older cars - I remember seeing cars with bumper sticker spots that were a different color than the rest of the vehicle.

I just don't have much experience with these. Seems like the aftermarket one allows more cleaning of the hood versus a taped on one? I'd be worried about what happens underneath the taped on version. Would be interesting to hear what people have experienced with these before, especially what things looked like if/when they removed them.

I had a deflector on my 2011 GMC 250 that used the trim screw on the underside of the hood.

They do make them. But, it may be a few months before they’re available for the Mav. That assumes there are screws along the hood that can be used.

Agree, that was what I had on my Tacoma.

On the underneath side it used screws. On the paint side there were 4 or 6 small rubber bumpers that were adhesive stuck to the back side of the deflector so that the hard plastic didn't come into contact and rub the paint. But that was back in 2013.

Yeah that seems to be what I remember from the 90's, 2000's on how most of them attached - back in the days before 3M tape.

I guess I'm just wondering if 5 years down the line if you decide to remove the 3M adhesive version if you'll see any paint color differences etc.

Also the ones that mount underneath tend to stick up a little more - I wonder if they will better deflect bugs than a flush mounted adhesive one....although they might effect MPG more.

That’s what my previous and current deflectors did....you could take if off and never see a scratch...except minor ones underneath hood.

What is much more important to me is finding an UPRIGHT deflector....My previous (sold) SUV had a mostly upright angle that deflected small bugs, rain and gravel up and over the windshield...have not been able to find another one like it, so may have to modify one....

Go on CarId.com and search for some and see how they fasten, and how high they appear to stick up.

As for color change, I believe it would be different. The space behind the deflector would act similar to a pair of sunglasses. Know how you can always tell when someone wears their sunglasses in the sun? I believe the color under the deflector would still be bold and bright whereas the hood not covered would be beat by the sun and discolored. As for under the sticky pads, they too would be protected from the sun.

I would imagine that there would be some color change regardless of which you choose. But you're right, the change with adhesive tape would probably be more obvious than the floating style with mounting screws. As far as paint flaking off from the tape, I don't think there would be an issue as long as you bought something reputable. A cheap knock-off I could see potentially causing damage.

Just my opinion though - mine's only been on there for 3-4 ish years, and I've never tried to take it off.

I have the Areoskin on my 16 Escape, Ford logo fell off somewhere (car wash?), but other than that, it looks good and done it’s job.

I’m planning on giving Tyger a bath today and then installing the Ford aeroskin deflector that has the adhesive strips. Anybody have any tips other than using the alcohol pad that came in the package? I am concerned about the hood fluttering that I keep reading about and hope I don’t experience that since I’m getting ready to leave on a 400 mile trip 🤞🏻

I had the screw on one that stood up higher on my 250 but the rocks ended up cracking the plastic and the holes where it mounted cracked so it had to come off.

I've had these flush mount hood deflectors on my vehicles for years. Long as you prep properly they will stick and you won't have any issues with them coming off. I had one that was like 5 years old and a huge rock cracked it. It did it's job protecting the vehicle. It was a bitch to get the old one off, but a heat gun made it doable. I was surprised to see that the area under it wasn't brighter or whiter than the other parts of the car. That was my experience, yours may vary. I have no issue using these 3M stick on type. I do understand why some wouldn't want it to mount with 3M tape and instead screw on, but those seem to be harder and harder to find these days.

Thanks, feeling better about it now🙂

My hood deflector arrived via FedEx last night. I purchased it during the 20% sale. Also received the floor liners, fit perfectly, tailgate lock and sunshade.
The deflector is 100% mounted using double stick tape. It basically covers the entire back where it mounts to the hood. I am not worried about it if cracks or gets damaged and there is a paint difference. I would just replace with another one.

Is yours a deflector with the little lip that sticks up to redirect air upwards? I thought that's what I ordered originally but mine is just basically a hood protector.
