The 12v AGM (Lead Acid)/ 470 CCA Battery powers a relay that activates/ establishes a connection for the HVB (a.k.a. "traction battery") to power the ICE.

If the 12v battery is dead or detected/ sensed as dead by the Electronic Control Module (ECM) then the ECM shuts down all systems. Vehicle defaults to "Park" and vehicle won't move until the 12v battery is energized by using a "jump pack" which provides enough juice to activate/ close the relay enabling power to flow from the HVB to the ICE.
Thanx for that concise explanation. Great info.

All you need to do is take your truck to ford and say that the system is not charging the 12 volt battery and they will check the relay that switches the HVB to charge the 12 volt. And if you want to have a backup plan for this problem buy a battery jump starter so you can energize the traction motor/HVB. This is the best solution in this case, just remember if you lock your keys in the car you are screwed as the locks and number pad does not work with out 12 volts.
God point about the keys in the truck. I had a similar situation. When I first bought a jump starter, I put it in the storage compartment in the back of my SUV. The SUV rear hatch opened only electrically. Fortunately I had a back-up key in the fob to unlock the front doors. I had to climb through to open the hatch with the inside emergency release. Needless to say the starters are now under the front seat. Wont be a problem for the Maverick.

Scott, absolutely....right now if there are problem trucks.

The 12v AGM (Lead Acid)/ 470 CCA Battery powers a relay that activates/ establishes a connection for the HVB (a.k.a. "traction battery") to power a traction motor which engages the eCVT to get the vehicle rolling under electric power and then switch to ICE power back and forth as needed.

If the 12v battery is dead or detected/ sensed as dead by the Electronic Control Module (ECM) then the ECM shuts down all systems. Vehicle defaults to "Park" and vehicle won't move until the 12v battery is energized by using external means (such as a "jump pack") to provide enough juice to activate/ close the relay enabling power to flow from the HVB to the traction motor which gets the vehicle rolling under electric power and then switches to ICE as needed in response to driving dynamics.

For everything to work, the HVB has to be healthy and in a good state of charge. So far, there has been no reports of unhealthy HVBs or irregularities in the HBVs state of charge.
I have one...12v is good but truck is DEAD

Right now I am elated to have the hybrid with fuel costs where they're at.
I am really enjoying it and looking forward to long-term ownership.

That said, getting stranded in this heat won't sit well with me. It's more than "just a warranty issue" when you depend on a vehicle and have strong work/life commitments.

Red Ryder -

I was just joshing around. I know there are numerous problems with Ford vehicles and other manufacturers. I look at all the different forums and every one of them have nightmare stories to be told. Ford had two recalls in two days. Hopefully the Maverick won't hit the recall list.

Yeah, I know, I saw the other thread. Hopefully these things will get sorted. Reliability is more important than features or even fuel economy.

Ford will solve it. They should jump in soon and ask you to message them your VIN so they can help out.

HEY............. @Ford Motor Company .........start addressing these issues!!!
I'm hoping you don't really think that account will do anything.
I have no doubt Ford is fully aware of what is going on.
How far up the ladder this issue is right now is a mystery. If it gets high enough there will be action. Or if the NHTSA sees this as a problem.

Nope. Of course they won't do anything based on what many actual customers here are reporting. BUT, it makes me feel better to vent somewhere.

And as of yesterday they are recalling 2.9 million vehicles that can roll away when put into park.... Not a good month for Ford right now....
