I have a 2017 Ford Escape White and the paint is pealing around the windshield posts and I am in the process of dealing with Ford on it . They say its off the warranty . Paint should last longer than 4 1/2 years . I am a bit nervous after reading these posts with a XLT on order .
I’ve seen the problem come up on a fair few escapes. I’ve also seen hundreds, and I’m sure there are thousands, that don’t have the issue. My Prius is flaking paint too. I wouldn’t waste much energy being concerned over this.

I drove Fords all my life and come from a family of Fords and I can tell you it leaves a bad taste . Ford has been painting cars for over a hundred years . They should not peel and when they do Ford should pay to fix them .

Boy we have come a long way 50 years ago I used to paint vehicles and we would empty the shop after work wet the floors down and paint 2/3/4 vehicles at a time and there was always a few six packs involved.

Not defending Ford at all but we live in different times. Water based paints are not as good as the older solvent based paint technologies, not as durable, not as hard, and probably not as well adhered to the metal surface. But the entire process of painting a vehicle is immensely better for the environment and for personnel in the paint shops now than it was in the past. There is always going to be problems on individual vehicles and questions of durability over time, but Ford generally has a good reputation for long term durability of their paint and so far I see no reason to be concerned about the viability of Maverick paint as a whole. If I start seeing clear coat peeling and flaking like the old Hondas and GM products of 20 years ago then I’ll get concerned.

Just because the paint appears thin is not necessarily a bad thing. Newer high tech paint is better than the stuff on your 1950s Chevy. A lighter, tougher coating benefits the consumer in some ways - and if it brings down the costs to keep the Maverick below 20K I call that a win. On the flip side it could mean Ford is being Cheap and the truck will rust through more quickly. But my point is to NOT jump to that conclusion at first. Will need some more research and more time to see how this plays out.
Rust isn't just dependent on paint. The entire body is dipped and galvanized prior to paint. That coating is important too.

According to my son who works in the paint department Tesla has high standards when it comes to their paint - so the Mavs paint can't be that bad - especially at the $20k starting price point !
Ironic considering on the owner side Tesla paint is generally regarded as notoriously bad and most do full coverage PPF or wrap an entirely different color.

As someone who has seen a lot of Tesla's, I can confirm their paint quality is as good as their panel gaps/fitment. lol

I wouldn't imagine they use different clear coats, but on the mine with black paint, the paint was very soft. I usually can get away with a 1 step polish/compound with a medium pad, but this left pretty bad hazing. Had to follow up with a finishing pad and polish, and still was finicky. Also already had hard water spots, bird dropping etchings, plenty of scratches and swirl marks right off the lot.

Ford has been producing cars for over 100 years. So by your logic after a warranty is completed, Ford should fix all things that go wrong with it.

Paint is not supposed peel period on a 4 year old car . im not talking about mechanical . So why are people complaining about the Maverick having paint problems if there are no problems .

Given that I simply don't wash trucks (um, because they're trucks), I don't expect to notice any paint flaws behind the accumulated bird poop, road tar, tree droppings and insect carcasses.

I don't know but the Maverick paint sucks. There are countless posts already of people with less than 1000 miles and already have a ton of chips everywhere. You can't even polish the Maverick because the paint is so thin. I don't know about the premium "Tri Coat" colors like Hot Pepper Red and Cyber Orange though.

Hell, I would probably still buy the car if they just clear coated the bare metal as long as it was good quality clear coat.

My 22 year old Mercedes has maybe 3 or 4 small rock chips on the hood and front bumper with almost 300k miles of driving between CA and Nevada. My Maverick had 2 within the first 200 miles of driving.

I would sell it and buy another Mercedes . I have 1500 miles on mine and 500 miles on gravel and dirt roads . I have zero chips . I do have a scratch on rear fender near tailgate l believe from a rogue shopping cart . at 1k l did put on bugflector but that was after my dirt/gravel road drives . l put on bugflector for Highway driving protection.
