Am I the only one who thinks it would be illegal with that on while driving? I know it's amber but it sure looks close to being red in the pictures. Isn't there some law reserving red and blue lights for law enforcement/emergency vehicles only?

Yes, most if not all States have red/blue lights reserved for first response vehicles. Amber is a lot more available to use in different situations. The best thing you can do check you State's laws about which lights can't be used. Or just slap on some lights and see if the po-po care.

ordered these lights on Amazon. There was plenty left over. I used standard butt splices but didn’t have the right size heat shrink. I’m in California so I’m not too worried about it. I still need to get some wire loom and connectors for the hood. I ran it down the inside of the fender well, to the headlight. The other white kit being sold on Etsy uses the drivers side headlight (it doesn’t really matter) I’ll post a pic of the wiring once I get it loomed. I believe it ties into the blue/brown wire on the headlight. I wouldn’t recommend anyone tapping into it unless you’re comfortable with doing it.
The light turns off as soon as you put the truck in park.

as far as whether it’s legal or not, the orange is very bright and vibrant. I’m not worried about it being illegal because amber and white are forward facing lights. I think that goes in every state. I’m going to be getting some ditch lights that have amber runners integrated in them as well. It would be illegal if I ran with the ditch lights powered on because there is a limit for the amount of (illumination) lights on a vehicle. I’m sure that varies from state to state.

I have an XL, so no upper running lights like the lariat. I thought about drilling into the headlights, But how they are shaped, it would be hard to get bulbs in there because of how the grille is put in.

I ended up getting amber lights off of Amazon and used 10lb gorilla tape and attached it to the underside of the hood. You’ll notice that it’s about 2 inches in on either side of the hood. That is because the plastic sleeve where the wires attach to the strip doesn’t bend very well. I ran the wires down the hood and back to the passengers headlight. Pretty happy with the result. I’m planning on getting some ditch lights to match.

I really haven't found any DIY mods that I would put on my Mav. This is AMAZING though! I love what you did!

Can you add a picture of it with the lights off? I'm just curious what shows or what it looks like under the lip of the hood. Thanks!

I would definitely like to see how this gets installed internally. I haven't done any mods to my mav yet, but I think this one (with a white bar) sounds like a nice first dive into customization.

Any more updates on the installation (pictures). I am very interested in doing something similar, but with a white led strip. Did you put an inline fuse, and if so what amperage? I already have the LED light strip (white), wire, inline fuse holder and plenty of electrical tape.
