Assuming that gas prices are either constant or climbing out of control. I don’t see the justification of spending several thousands to buy a new vehicle with 25-30 mpg while saving yourself a few bucks a month. Am I wrong? Feel free to discuss. If this is your reason to buy the Maverick

Its all a big money game. New vehicles are more expensive than old, thats the price of shiny. Better MPG just takes the sting off and makes sure you have enough money to pay the bank.

If the objective is just to be as frugal as possible, running old cars into the ground is almost always your best bet, unless it's something silly like a mid 80s Suburban that gets about the same mileage as a tank.

I did not have a truck but wanted one. Once I heard about a Maverick, I bought the hybrid because gas mileage was important. Price of truck was too. I would have gotten the XL but wanted cruise and power mirrors. I had a Chevy Volt so on long trips gas mileage was about the same. Around town the Volt beats the Mav easily, but Chevy stopped making the Volt and parts were getting more scarce. Time to get a truck again. Gas is going up and Electricity too. My payment is 190.00 and so my budget has room for more gas expenses now. I also make lists that reduce driving around when I go to town. Many people could be more efficient with energy. I set cruise at 68 when on a 65mph freeway not 75+.

I ordered it for better milage vs 16.5 on my 2013 f150, more manuverability since I have moved from 2 acres plus pond in the country to 1/3 acre dont need a big truck anymore and a big plus it will be shiny and new (if I ever get it).

Sold an 07 Mountaineer V8 to get my Maverick. 13.5 mpg to to 21 local and 28.8 on the highway. Used my Mountaineer like a truck mostly. The Maverick checked so many boxes and for the price it was a good buy for me in my opinion. My Maverick has EXCEEDED my expectations in every category so I have zero regrets.

Oh it is definitely false economy to buy a new car to save on gas. Buy a Maverick because you want it and can afford it. Not for gas reasons.

That's what i'm doing. Plus i literally need a larger vehicle than my current fiesta that averages 35.5mpg because i am literally cramming myself into it at 6'4" tall.

I can honestly say with certainly that selling my Colorado and replacing it with the hybrid Maverick was a sound financial decision. The 2018 Colorado brought near what I paid for it in Sept 2017 and I paid MSRP minus $500 for the Maverick. No financing on the Colorado nor when trading for the Maverick.
My commute is ~30 miles each way and I've been averaging about 50MPG on that commute.

I ordered a Maverick because of my work situation.

I have a diesel truck because when I bought it, one of the perks of my job was free on road diesel. I rarely ever had to buy fuel for years. It is older now and has 400k miles on it. It has been a great daily driver for years. I generally drive it 25 to 30k miles a year. Politics aside, not much gas pipeline work around now so I am now buying fuel again. It gets about 15 mpg city, 18 mpg hwy about 17mpg overall.

Regular fuel saves me about a dollar a gallon and premium is about the same price compared to diesel. The Maverick should get at least 10 mpg better.

When I figured what it costs to keep an older truck driven as much as I do well maintained coupled with the price of fuel and the drop in the insurance rates on the diesel by putting it on a limited mileage policy my choice was easy...do I want a nearly free new truck or not.

I get 14mpg in my 1995 z71 which I still love. I’m only buying for gas reasons in that I still need to haul some things and can’t afford to keep two vehicles instead of one (Ford Maverick)

My old Ranger XLT (‘02) had an MSRP of $17.5K. Manual windows, no cruise control.
My hybrid XL MSRP was $22K. After inflation the Ranger would now be $28K.

Maverick is 27% cheaper per MSRP, but back in ‘02, there were discounts. Now, there are ADM’s. So they end up costing about the same OTD after accounting for inflation. And due to market conditions, I got about 40% more when I sold the Ranger. Weird times!
