Did you do a Free Body Diagram and calculate the forces on the little trucklet?
On this specific vehicle? No, but have I had to build models and run them through CFD software or even build them out of plexiglass and put them in a wind tunnel and use polarized glasses to watch the stressors move and evolve, yeah many times.

Useless note: did you know water is compressible? I did not until I started working with it at 60k to 200k doing waterjet nozzle design, in dear lord, umm the early 90’s I tend to collect jobs and degrees, its one of the thing made me a good teacher: cross application of it all. Like i said elsewhere going to go be old and sleep. 4:15 comes earlier these days it seems than it used to and it is almost 9. Gotta work on my part of a disaster plan tomorrow. (yeah I do work in a bunch of fields, just dont get paid for it anymore)

Let’s over simplify the model: you have a force pushing down on the hitch receiver and the force is great enough to take up the entire suspension travel plus a bit more including tire squat. It seems reasonable that the back wheels will act as a fulcrum and the downforce on the front end will be reduced. Reducing the friction on the front tires. In a turning situation the vehicle could understeer and cause loss of control. I should send this problem over to Dr. Woods at UTA and let him geek out over this (he is head of the Formula SAE program over there).

So wait…

My FWD 4K tow package needs to be altered to AWD?

i went onto to fords build and price website and made my exact build - nothing was stated to me that it had to switch over to AWD when I selected the 4K tow package.

i scrolled on down to see if FWD was auto-selected to AWD, and it wasn’t; Just stayed on FWD option

I know there are people confirming the change on this forum, but is there any reason to think Ford would slack in fixing this on their build and price website? Or is this rumor just a fluke?

That’s funny. If Ford thought the MIC tops for the Bronco weren’t going to be a problem (they did) they wouldn’t be replacing 8,000 tops (and they are). Do not put it past Ford to do something stupid!
Funny how, Ford replacing them for free, stoping production until suitable replacements are availabel?.
or should they give in to all the cry babies and keep pumping out Broncos with faulty tops?

Point is Ford does stupid stuff. They knew the tops were bad and still the went forward with production. Crybabies? What are you talking about? I never mentioned anything about reservationists crying to get a Bronco. I hold Ford responsible for engineering and design performed before sending Bad Batch Broncos out to customers. Plain and simple.

Call your dealer. It's very possible they haven't updated the build configurator online yet.

I trust the memos that multiple dealers have confirmed over the build and price tool.

All I hear is blah blah blah………shit happens, people need to get over it, nothing is 100% fool proof especially engineering a new vehicle from a.ground up platform.

Your dealer is clueless ... there should be a "'priority code" on your DORA (Dealer provided Order Summary).

For that order to be "retail" (i.e. a customer order) the priority code should be anywhere from "10-19". Assigning a "10-19" priority code is a proactive action on the part of the dealer.

The dealer ordering system defaults to priority code "80" (i.e. Dealer Stock)
I will have to call and try to talk to a manager, sales had no idea what they were doing when I reserved back on June 8th. My DORA copy is the one I signed at the dealer the day they put my order in (June 10), maybe they changed it after I left. The sales rep seems clueless about everything. I did get an email from Ford on the 10th that I had ordered, so hopefully just the sales rep is wrong.

There is no 4K towing option for the Hybrid. If you mean the hitch option that's not what this change is affecting.

You didn't dispute anything, you made an appeal to authority using an anonymous online alias, lol! If you'd like to have a debate about the physics involved, then do so.

Here's an appeal to authority that also offers an explanation that is more or less mirroring what I just said: https://www.motorbiscuit.com/heres-why-you-can-tow-with-a-front-wheel-drive-car/

Ford automotive engineers or lawyers weren't suddenly surprised at the last minute that FWD towing isn't as safe, but they probably were surprised by the amount of orders and of 4K kits in particular and may have supply issues, particularly with COVID surges happening again which was unexpected.
They are emailing people who are scheduled FWD 4K and say telling them to choose AWD to keep the 4K or drop the 4K
