When I put my Mav in drive there is a whirring noise that comes from the electric motor. It is almost as loud as the back up alarm. Is this normal? My Honda hybrid does not make this noise.

My Lariat Hybrid FE does it all the time, but mostly in the morning when she's waking up.

Current vehicles with electric-only capabilities are mandated by the federal government to have a fake "exterior" noise to warn pedestrians and such that a vehicle is in drive near them since they are very very quiet without any engine noise. I believe this was *mandated* only in the last few years -- previous models were not *required* to have this noise, so some older hybrid models do, and some don't.

But anyway, this is normal on the 2022 hybrid Maverick. The speaker is under the front bumper, I think on the driver side but I don't know anyone who has actually confirmed the speaker location.

The sound will be made from that speaker up to about 25 mph, whether your engine is running or not, ironically. So you just gotta get used to it :) and the reverse boop boop sonar ping.

It’s probably more of a transducer than a speaker so it won’t look like a speaker or horn.. a disc appearance…

Ok, I uploaded a recording of the sound. This is before the ICE starts. It is really loud under the hood.

First of all, holy crap your car is filthy. And second of all, the sound is the the federally mandated noise electric vehicles must produce to notify pedestrians of hybrid or electric vehicles

Yeah, that's definitely the pedestrian warning system. The speaker is under the hood, behind the bumper, near the air cleaner. The control module for it is in the rear seat compartment with the 12v battery.

Have you seen where the harness plug is for the speaker? Is it accessible?

And i'm just merely telling you to stop being rude to people.
Agree. Some things are better kept to yourself.

So, as the saying goes......... IF YOU HAVE NOTHING GOOD TO SAY, KEEP YOUR TRAP SHUT.
