I recently received and installed a BAK x4s tonneau cover. The fitment seems off. I contact support and they say it’s fine. I would like to see photos if possible of others that have this cover. Preferably the area really near the rear window. My cover seems to come up short of meeting the bulkhead seal. Almost like the rails are too short. In other photos I see it looks like the rails almost go to the rear window.

I have the same problem, they say it's fine of course but I have yet to see any videos of their covers with this big of a gap. Their manual also says it should line up. Its about a 1/2" off.
Their solution To me was to stuff foam in the gap.

I really believe this is a design defect in our cover. If that side rail was just a half inch longer everything would be great. I contacted BAK and they say this is the correct fitment. My reply was the correct fitment leaves a huge gap. They said add some foam.

I installed mine with the thin rubber seal strip curved up against the rear window instead of down on the bulkhead. I did have to trim a small amount of the wide side strip to do this. I don’t have any leaks doing it this way and it looks like a neater installation to me.

I was planning on buying one for my Maverick, but based on what I've been reading about them I'm now leaning towards finding something that fits right out of the box.

Do you have the spray in liner ? Looks like you used the thinner seal tape. Also, did you keep the the square squishy tape on the ends of the silver metal parts ? I know this make no difference on the overall fit. Just curious which configuration I should use installing mine. Thank you.

Yes, I have the factory SIBL. I did use the thinner tape despite the instructions due to a poor fit with the thick tape. I also used two short pieces of the thin tape at the front of the bulkhead just to cover the exposed paint on the ends for a neater look. I installed the rails per the instructions with the square foam attached tight against the bed. I could not get a neat fit when precisely following the manufacturer’s instructions. That’s why I wound up curving the front seal up against the window instead of down on the top of the bulkhead. When I initially followed the printed instructions, the front seal and side seals bunched up below the window and looked terrible.

Then get the BAK MX4, it’s a better cover...

With it installed that far forward, don’t you have a big gap at the back?

No, the side rails are installed as per the instructions so there’s no gap at the rear. The only difference with mine is how I dealt with the front seal.

Thank you Thosw. I am going to redo mine this weekend and have the seal curl upward against the window. Left side is ok - but the right side seems longer and curls up. Maybe they made my right side too long. I still love this cover.

I think there might be slight differences in fabrication from cover to cover which would explain the different fitment issues that have been discussed. I still prefer this model over the folding MX4 because it doesn’t block the rear window view. Just be prepared to massage it a little to get the right fit for you.

Those look nice, but 'm looking for a hard roll up. Might just put my ford points towards the factory hard roll up.
