I understand OP. I just finished my paperwork with Chapman on Thursday.

They did not send a temp tag but a picture of my signed sales contract they received back from the overnighted paperwork and told me to go to the DMV and get a temp tag here in Florida.

I was like what? How the hell am I going to the DMV with no paperwork and a picture you sent me in an email of my paperwork? I call them up and they tell me they only have so many temp tags and I can go tthe DMV if I want it sooner and they will reimburse me the $34.

I said you charged me and I paid for the temp tag. I emailed several people explaining that I am not going to the DMV. They Finally sent me an email that they got a bunch of temp tags from the state and overnighted me one that I got yesterday.

During the paperwork process I asked several times when I would get the temp tags but no one answered me.

I know they are busy but communication from these guys was not great and somewhat frustrating.

Ask Chapman to fax a copy of the title or registration and post it in your truck rear window with the expired temp tag, then hire a lawyer,
and contact Ford CS. Also if financed contact the lean holder.

Just keep emailing them and press them on the temp tag. I would reply to all and then individual people there about the tag issue. They probably got sick of me but I didn’t care.

My courtesy drop dealer couldn’t help me about a tag and waiting on Chapman was frustrating. I took my tag off my Mustang and drove the Maverick home. Yea illegal but I’m not letting it sit at my CD dealer any longer. It was there for a week already waiting on Chapman to send me the paperwork and it being Friday with the “we only have so many temp tags and go to the DMV” BS did not sit well with me.

Call and email on Monday and press them to get you one overnighted.

How were you checking the Florida DMV for the title? Phone number or website? Thanks

Looks like these Chapman guys are incredibly incompetent! I would have taken a blank form over to a printer and had a rush job done to placate my customers.

If he's buying the truck from a dealer in PA and he lives in FL, how is that dealer going to have a title or registration?

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but it's my understanding that the dealer will provide the manufacturer's statement of origin, which would be used to register the truck in FL..

A lot of people have ordered through the same dealer. I have already explained why this is an issue. People have had all sorts of dealer issues and posted about it here, whether with this one or with another dealer.

And yes, it's a big deal to me. As my momma likes to say, never say it's only X if it ain't your money that's going to be spent.

Oh my gosh! This happened to me, but my problem was the dealer put a completely different address on the paperwork. My title and plates went to an address I had never heard of! When I looked at all the paper work later, the address was correct in some areas but all DMV stuff was wrong! I ended up with a duplicate title because of this dealer error! I simply could not imagine this could happen, but it did!

Taxes have no bearing as you pay those in the state you live and register the vehicle in, if applicable, anyway.

OK, I stand corrected on that part and plead ignorance since I never bought a vehicle out of state. I still chose to buy my Maverick locally to support local businesses and their employees. Others may choose to only consider the bottom line and that's certainly their choice to make.

I understand your frustration but an expired tag does not mean your vehicle can not be driven. You have all the paperwork to show it was a legally purchased new vehicle and the delay was out of your control along with other info should you get stopped(which is doubtful)

Again, in the same vein as hcforde - I feel that this really just boils down to how confident you'll feel IF you get pulled over. I've driven on the same 30 day temp tags for over 3 or 4 months. I got pulled, and the officer just said that I'd have to move the temp tag to a more visible area - as I had heavy factory tint (Was a '10 Ford Flex btw... Loved that car)

Holy crap after reading the first 6 pages of this thread I finally jumped to the end. I originally read the title and thought Dang - must be bad .... then I waste a half hour reading how some one is LIVID - Legal Bills - Lawyer - over not getting the perm tag. Holy crap. Its NOT a lawn ornament its a new truck. Drive the crap out of it. No one is going to give you a ticket. Everyone is short handed. Lawn ornament ....... holy crap.

This is unusual. I purchased mine out of state, my temporary tags just expired. I sent an email to my salesman and he replied letting me know that he checked with DMV and my plates are being processed. He included an attachment with a new temporary tag. Your dealer should be able to do the same.

Would this fiasco be avoided if you did your own registration and license in the beginning instead of going through Chapman?
