I guess I make too good of a living, have too pretty of a wife, and have spent too much time competing in powerlifting and jiu jitsu tournaments to need a truck to be big, high, and gas-guzzling - with no functional benefit to me - to feel like a man.
Right you are, bro!

Some guys just feel like they have to brag or show off some way to feel like a man.

Good thing wealthy, powerful men (with pretty wives) like you and me don't do that, eh?;)

If you like the look, you like the look. Nothing wrong with that, just admit it. Saying a truck isn't a truck because it doesn't weight 5,000lbs. and has only moderate ground clearance is silly.

You know that feeling you get when you make what you think is a pretty good joke and it seems like no one gets it?

I've got that feeling...

I had no idea you were making a joke about my purposely blatantly obvious (not so) back-door brag.

I really like the Maverick. I like the simple, low cost, easy to clean and durable looking interior; I like her 200" length; her reasonably narrow body. I like her starting price; I like the utility of the bed, and the underneath storage feature of the rear bench seat. I like that Ford built integrated frame rails under the bed, and I like the Maverick's simple, yet durable, suspension. I had some concerns about the longevity of the base engine, but those concerns have been mitigated.

The thing I cannot get past - on paper, the Maverick has ample ground clearance - but her profile, when you look at the truck, it looks like a crossover, unitbody, SUV. Yes...it has the ground clearance of a truck, but her profile looks low to the ground. Some people might like a low step in height, but I prefer the feel of a higher step in feel of a body on frame truck. The Ranger is a little too costly for me, and the Ranger is simply too long; I won't go the Ranger route. But I cannot get past the "the Maverick looks like an SUV with a low step in height."

Am I alone with my visual impressions?
One of the reasons I've stayed away from pickup trucks is that you have to climb in and out of them. That changes with the Maverick.

This vehicle is very accessible. That appeals to me, and it will be especially welcome to my grandchildren. There are many larger trucks out there and I have owned a few. That helps me to appreciate more room, lower lifting and loading heights, and doubling my fuel economy. If it starts every time, is comfortable to drive and carries my kayaks to the water, it will make me happy.

Yep get a big behemoth that has to stop at every gas station and while filling up puff out chest and start pounding. Let everyone know your a “man” because you bought a “real truck” 🙄
If you want to do real truck things, you need a real truck. I don’t want a real truck, I want a practical commuter hence maverick

Yes - you are alone. If you want it to look like a jacked-up freak, put a lift kit on it - or oversized tires.

Dude don't hold back tell us how you really feel about trucks.....;)

Some people lower their vehicles, some jack um up, some like the all black tinted look, me I leave alone and drive the crap out of them.

one size does not fit all.

I drove a small ‘89 Toyota Pickup for many years, and it was wonderful. The Maverick will fill that void rather well. It’ll tow my small boat, carry my bikes, pick up stuff from Home Depot, etc. The great price sealed the deal. If I could buy a “new” Toyota truck like my old one for the price of a Maverick, would I? Yeah, probably—especially if it had 5 seats. But that’s not EVER going to happen. I’m really exited to receive my Maverick.
I'm in the same boat. I'd love an '89 Toyota truck sized vehicle but those just don't exist anymore, and never will. The Maverick comes close in relative size and frugality. I think I'll be quite happy with it.

The low profile is engineered so that wives, mother-in-law‘s sisters and small children can also use the vehicle. I think it’s a key aspect of why it’s selling so well. I couldn’t buy it until my wife agreed but she could get in and out of it so maybe you don’t have that problem

Perfection is elusive. I like the ease of entry, the low height of the bed and most of the rest of it. I'll take the Maverick as it is.

The first time we saw a Maverick on the street, my 9yr old daughter commented "I don't want that truck, I want a big truck that makes me feel powerful". My response was "wouldn't actually being powerful make you feel powerful?"

I guess I make too good of a living, have too pretty of a wife, and have spent too much time competing in powerlifting and jiu jitsu tournaments to need a truck to be big, high, and gas-guzzling - with no functional benefit to me - to feel like a man. I'm fine with a "non-truck", even if my daughter isn't. If you actually need a big lifted truck, that's a different story and more power to you.

This sums up my thoughts exactly. I particularly like the low bed, which makes the light hauling I do very easy.

If my truck didn't have the damned rattle where the dash meets the windshield, this truck would be perfect.
