They aren't hurting from it. My local dealer dragged his feet on submitting my order and I ended up getting charged more than $1000 more MSRP for my January 4th order. That will be if I am lucky and even get a 2022 model. Prices went up before they had delivered 25% of their customer orders. The dealers make more money, they order more trucks and Ford makes more money. I have not seen them enact any rules or limitations on the price gouging. They do benefit from it or they'd have stopped it. Ford cut out 30,000 jobs in N America in the early 2000s because their profits were down, but the people in charge at Ford aren't choosing "gas or groceries" this week as many Americans are and they don't care if dealers are price gouging, as long as the media doesn't blame them.

  • Bill Ford at $16,046,542, down from $16.8 million in 2019.
  • Tim Stone, who was hired as chief financial officer in 2019, at $6,173,021. Farley on his first day as CEO announced Stone's departure. Stone was compensated $8.3 million in 2019, which included an $850,000 signing bonus and $692,652 for moving from California to Michigan.
  • John Lawler, who replaced Stone as CFO on Oct. 1, at $5,983,141.
  • Hau Thai-Tang, who was promoted from chief product development and purchasing officer to chief product platform and operations officer, at $11,780,405.
  • Kumar Galhotra, president of the Americas and International Markets Group, earned $8,534,094.
The price increase, which also affected other truck models - not just Maverick, went into effect on 12/27/21. If you placed your order on January 4th, you missed the 12/27 cutoff for the earlier pricing. I'm not sure how that's the dealer's fault, unless you actually placed your order before Christmas. If that is the case, you have a legitimate gripe and should have a conversation with the GM at the dealership. My order was placed and my confirmation received the same day. Putting an order in the computer is not a complex process for a dealer to undertake. There is no legitimate reason for them to drag their feet.
Yes, Ford is going to make more money on trucks ordered after the 12/27/21 price increase, but their costs have no doubt gone up as well since the Maverick pricing was announced on June 8, 2021. The price increase wasn't unexpected.

The compensation corporate executives in this country is obscene. I won't argue that.

Price gouging by dealers is bad for the brand. It's bad for the brand of all automobile manufacturer's who are experiencing the same issue. I'm sure Ford's leadership cares about it, but due to arcane state franchise laws, that are allegedly in place to protect...you guessed it, jobs, manufacturers have limited recourse to reign in dealers' behavior. Ford can set the MSRP, but they are not permitted to tell franchised dealers how much to charge for Ford vehicles. That's the world we live in.

Just spent my “$100” gift card. I can tell you the $25 maverick cup is worth $7 and the $89.99 hoodie maybe $20. I also noticed market adjustment on that $89.99 hoodie as the tag says $69.99. The Ford Merchandise web site photos don’t match what you get. Expect less quality.

I disagree, the t-shirts are good quality and true sizes. The flannel Lined button down is great quality.
While it’s frustrating waiting for delivery of our trucks stop blaming Ford. It’s a world wide issue.

YMMV. I posted evidence of cheap Chinese things, and cheap Chinese crap is a world wide issue. I’m not going to be thankful that Ford gave me a box of garbage; like the FITS kit I might get someday. What was I blaming on Ford?

Situational awareness. Most of the MTC won’t be getting a $100 gift card for merchandise. That is the topic of the thread. Your post up sells the value while mine downplays it.

Brilliant marketing strategy actually. Heavily advertise an affordable, gas efficient vehicle. Many people will want one. So many that you can justify charging 20% or more over MSRP when there are constraints to actually producing those vehicles. Like all good American consumers, we want what we can't have so people paying luxury vehicle prices for that "affordable small pick up" .
While in general I agree with you, I don't believe Ford heavily advertised the Maverick.

Ford doesn't get a penny of that 20% over MSRP that you refer to. I'm sure the dealer getting 20% over MSRP is making about 10X the profit that Ford is making on that vehicle.

Ford customers are pissed and are blaming Ford for the price gouging, even though they aren't responsible for the practice and are not benefiting from it. I doubt very much that Ford views the situation as "brilliant marketing."
I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong. My understanding is the franchise fees the dealers pay Ford are based on the dealer profit.

So ADM would benefit Ford Motor in the form of larger franchise fees.

I think everyone that ordered the Maverick should get the 100.00 gift card that others are getting. I have been waiting since June and finally have a build date.

Thoughts?
Ford doesn't owe you anything. Entitlement society should not drive sound business decisions.

No, I don't really have a clue what that would entail but I do believe that we have the technology, intelligence and work force in N America and always have. They chose to get them elsewhere in the world because it cost them less to do it that way. The "supply chain" issues are political and yes, it all goes back to greed. "Can't live without cruise control". You can actually, most people in the world do, but I want it too. We're all guilty of it. I don't "need" this truck but I want it. For under $30K with luxury please.
We do have the technology and the workforce, but if those chips are built in the U.S. the price of that Maverick goes WAY up. And, that is what we are likely to see in the near future. Problem is, factories don't get magically built overnight. Yes greed is human nature, so surely you see the ridiculousness of complaining about "corporate greed" out of one side of your mouth while talking about how it benefits you (and how you want your <$30k truck) out of the other.
