A little story about a chip manufacturer in this country in the early 80's. Microprocessors were coming online and Intel and AMD were at the forefront of development. Intel made a microprocessor with a track on the chip that went to nowhere and did absolutely nothing. A few years later we confiscated a Russian computer to check out their advancements in microchips and there it was a packaged Russian microprocessor with the same track going nowhere and doing absolutely nothing.

The reason I bring this up, we were always ahead of our advisories until we moved all our secrets to China for manufacturing (they signed a non disclosures agreement) and then they share all that information with IRAN. NORTH KOREA and RUSSIA. Our tax dollars pay for all this Research and Development, and they get it all for free.

How do I know this, I worked for the Department of Defense in various capacities my whole career in Research and Development and get pissed off every time I see a Russian Tank decked out with our Home-Grown Technology?

Let's take time to consider the alternative. Ford continues to build incomplete vehicles, then parks them in the desert to wait on components [chips]. Meanwhile brake rotors rust, batteries degrade, desert Vermon take up residency, [I don't like spiders and snakes] and the mice and rodents that nest in your vent ducts. I personally would prefer it to have it in my own garage while I wait for those few nonessential components.

Perhaps but now you're gonna have Ford hiring "junkyard miners" to collect these used chips? And would you want to pay the same for a used or "refurbished" part as you would for a new part? I've bought refurbished stuff before, but knew that's what it was going in and paid a considerably reduced price for the "privilege."

My wife’s step-dad is retired and works for a Chevy/Cadillac dealer. We were talking about my Maverick order process one day and he mentioned one of his customers has like top trim $65k+ Tahoe or Escalade (can’t remember) that they bought 6+ months ago and doesn’t even have the heated seats feature because they sold it without the necessary chips and will be installed when received. So yes, it has definitely been done by GM, if not others…so people shouldn’t be singling Ford out. I know I was in the mindset of give me my Maverick ASAP and install non-safety chips later when delays started to hit. Luckily it didn’t come to that, and I’ll hopefully have a fully built Mav within a week.

I know you weren't quoting me, but let me answer anyway. It's really not my concern if someone is dumb enough to pay a markup on an unfinished product. Before joining this forum, I would have thought that to be something impossible. But you learn something new every day.

We need plants and jobs back in America for, at the very least, the security of our future as a 1st world nation. Sorry, it's the Veteran in me coming out.
