Unless the Maverick was specifically listed, I am not sure it is well equipped enough to qualify for this sort of thing even in top trim after looking at the spreadsheet posted earlier.

But reading the people cheering this on makes me realize Ford didn't just underestimate demand for the Maverick.. they underestimated the desperation. This is a big purchase and the things consumers are willing to accept concerns me about what the automakers may realize they can get away with in the future.

I've been a part of many car forums and owned some very nice cars in my time and I don't think I've ever wanted any of them - or perhaps anything - as much as some of you want a Maverick.
Agree, for the ones wanting it incomplete now , I hope you get yours asap but good luck dealing with the hassle in your future, I’ll continue to hold out until Ford can deliver what I wanted, ordered and will pay for at delivery. Come to think of it, your incomplete truck may allow me to get my complete truck sooner.

This is sad for all those waiting. First off we outsourced too much of our technology, secondly we outsourced to people who hate us, all in the name of companies making a dollar more here and there. We need plants and jobs back in America for, at the very least, the security of our future as a 1st world nation. Sorry, it's the Veteran in me coming out. Continued good luck to those stuck in this void.
You are exactly right. If there were shortages in the past, it was because we were in a war. Now we've outsourced everything to overseas suppliers, and when they wage war, or have any other sort of problem, or their shipping logistics has problems, we feel it.

Not going to change anytime soon. It is what it is.

At least my 1973 Mustang runs fine. Only thing electronic in that is the radio. Was even the last year Ford used breaker point ignition. I had to replace the flexible dash circuit "board" that hangs behind the instrument cluster due to age, but that is a totally passive "board", with no electronic components. Even with the crude mechanical emission control devices, it still runs fine. Has the 250 six. However, it only gets about 15 MPG.

I had a conversation with my Uncle Jim today who I reference often on this form. He is a retired Ford field engineer. He confirmed most of what I thought would be involved with these units shipped without "Chips" for non-safety features as well as what @davnau posted in #110.

Uncle Jim - "If a unit is shipped without a chip(s) it will be installed by a dealer by means of replacing the entire "Module" with a New Module that has the Chip(s). These are Plug-in modules and the degree of difficulty will depend on where the Module is located. Like any other "Service" part replacement this will have an extensive Ford step-by-step procedure."

I replaced the PATS module in my grandson's Mustang a few years ago that was inside the passenger fender - not all that bad. I also removed & replaced the ECM in the same mustang which also was fairly easy. I personally have no problem with Ford shipping my Maverick with a non-safety feature disabled as long as I know ahead of time what feature that is. I think this issue is being blown out of proportion a bit. I'm sure Ford would rather send out units with everything as should be but the reality is that this problem can't honestly be blamed on Ford. I think we should wait to see if Ford even goes this route and what features would be in play on the Maverick.

I think its going to get a lot worse. What do you think all this warfare related tech is using that everyone is using in the Ukraine/Russian conflict? All this tech that is being destroyed is going to have to be replaced, and what do you think is going to get higher priority, someone's heated seats or a Javelin?

I think this is going to get rough before it gets better, most of the planned chip manufacturing facilities are going to take a couple years to get up and running. And we had better hope China does not make a move on Taiwan, or things will get wayyyy worse.
I said earlier computer chips should be considered a strategic resource and treated accordingly.

I think that there's a few companies that are now taking steps to bring back manufacturing to the USA, but it's going to take some years to do that and until then it's going to be a bumpy ride!
Where do we start? My daughter bought me a FORD Official Licensed Product Hat, made in China. :)

Ok take 2,000 off until the chips are installed and working . Ford ships unfinished trucks and I hold back the money until the truck is 100% .The warranty absolutely should be extended for the length of time it takes Ford to install the chips .
How about a construction loan, here is part of the money when finished I pay you the rest……and I figure in the price I am not paying you up front…..inconvenience etc taken into consideration?

I shouldn't have removed my Lux package....
Nope, if you wanted the XLT Lux - you should have kept it. People should have ordered what they wanted and left it. It will eventually get here.

“Before we give you the keys, please sign this 6 page liability release.” I’m sure that will be a part of this.
Agree. I wouldn't sign anything like that at all.

I'm hoping they start with chip manufacturers first and then move on to hats! 🤣🤣

I thought I was doing very well being patient and enjoying the entertainment of the maniacs here. Now with gas prices going up I think I've become one of them. This low hanging fruit, chip delete , has got me excited. Hanging around here way too much.👽🤪

I agree it is key to know what is missing, if Ford goes through with this.

I had a friend who had a pilot's license. Did not own a plane, but instead rented when needed. He said on a small plane, there is always stuff that does not work. He said the was key to know WHAT was not working ON THAT DAY before taking off in it.

Makes sense.
